Carrots
Well, thanks for all the replies, everyone! It had occurred to me
that the carrots cook down some, and become softer, so pack into the cup more easily, but I still couldn't see going from 0 points to 1. I'm not sure about the fiber cooking out, but I *really* can't buy into the idea that cooking brings out the sugar. Either the sugar is there or it isn't. I suppose there's also some difference in the method of cooking. If you boil the heck out of them, I can see a more dramatic change. I steam them for about 10 minutes. Anyway, I'm counting the carrots as raw, even if I steam them, and I'm just going to stick to my guns on that. I'm glad to hear from you, Dash, that your leader agrees with me on this, but the Online Points Tracker is on the FlexPoints system, and it says a cup of carrots is 0 points, but a cup of *cooked* carrots is 1 point. I did notice, though, that 8 oz. of carrots is 1 point, either raw or cooked, so there's probably something to the idea that they cook down, that 1 cup of raw carrots becomes 3/4 cup cooked or whatever. For the most part, I go by weight anyway, which puts me back to there not really being any difference. Thanks for all the thought you gave to my question, and thanks for the encouragement! Well, thanks. I *only* lost another half a pound today (I weigh
myself every day, even though that's a no-no, but it helps me know when I record my weekly weight if I was having an unusually "fat" or "skinny" day). Now I'm at an even ten pounds. So 40 more days of this should be another 100 lbs, I figure, and then I'll be just about right.. I'm just kidding, of course. That kind of thinking is exactly why I'm trying not to be too exuberant about it, but I must admit that for now it doesn't hurt to give me some incentive to stick to the plan. Stan Oh God, I'm supposed to post some stats here... Here goes... 309/299/199 --- it would just be cool to see a "1" as the first digit again, you know? Welcome to the ASDWW ng Stan!! Lots of caring and informative people
here!! I don't know the answer to your carrot question but I'm sure someone has written it to you. Congrats on losing 9.5 lbs. Connie Stan wrote: I'm in my first week (day 4). I signed up for three months online. I've lost 9 1/2 lbs. in three days. I know it's only water, but my ankles are grateful nonetheless. So are my feet and my knees... On my first day, trying to catch up on this newsgroup, I was rolling my eyes at some of you who just couldn't seem to eat enough food to use up their points. I knew I would eventually get used to smaller portions and so forth, but puh-leeez! Today, I was running around like crazy, ate a light lunch, grabbed a V8 to take in the car, had a bowl of vegetable soup at home before running out, and later on, sat down to dinner at 9:30 without taking time to review my points situation. I was very hungry, and ate 10 ounces of yellowfin tuna, cooked rare on the grill. That's only 6.5 points! I'm going to have that a lot, and shrimp. Anyway, after dinner, I caught up my points tracker and I still had 11.5 points to go. I grinned to myself, thinking I'd better stop rolling my eyes now. Well, I really enjoyed my big bowl (two servings) of Great Grains cereal with raisins, dates and pecans, and 8 oz. of 0.5% milk, followed by a Swiss Miss chocolate ice cream bar! I'm still patting my oh-so-full tummy. Most of the points seem pretty straightforward so far. One thing that confuses me is that a cup of raw carrots has 0 points. Steam those carrots for 10 minutes, now the same serving has 1 point. This makes no sense to me. What gives?? Many people weigh themselves everyday, myself included, for the same reason
that you wrote. It gives me an idea of how I am doing. Helps keep me on track too. I only count Thursday mornings as my "official" weigh in. This day is left over from when I was going to meetings. I really could change it to any day I want to now that I am not going to meetings. "Stan" wrote in message ... Well, thanks. FWIW, I bet *none* of us got to be overweight by eating too many carrots
.... :-) So, if you continue to lose by counting the cooked ones as 0, go for it. Congrats on the first week's nice loss. Oh, yeah, and around here you aren't allowed to use the word "only" when discussing *any* weight loss: it's only a pound, it's only water ..., it's only ... -- Anne in CA "Don't miss the diamonds along the way; every road has led us here today." -- Sheryl Crow 162/129/132 http://home.covad.net/~arudolph/annes.htm Stan wrote: Well, thanks for all the replies, everyone! Carrots and Flex Points
According to the new Complete Food Companion for the Flex Points
program, cooked onions and cooked carrots are still 1 point per cup and raw onions and raw carrots are still 0 points per cup. |

Don't forget the other rule....always use *only* for a gain. It's only half
a pound, it's only one week. :-) -- SuzyQ Weight 124 WW Lifetime Membership Feb 03 "Anne" wrote in message ...
