My wife and I went on the Sugar Buster's diet about 3 months ago and
have lost about 30 lbs (each) in that time. I can't compare it to
atkins in detail since I haven't studied the atkins diet. Sugar
Busters follows the glycimic index data pretty closely and allows most
fruits, but with special rules about when you should and should not eat
them. Also, there is no induction phase. You just start doing the diet.
The most difficult thing has been to find foods that are acceptable in
the supermarket - but that's true with all LC diets.

There are a couple books out describing the diet that you could look for
at your local bookstore. It doesn't have the press of Atkins or South
Beach, but I can attest, it does work.

For some more info - you can see my website:

I update my progress every now and then so check back whenever you think
to do so.

As I have ruffled a few feathers in the past week, talking about choices I
have made in foods while doing a low carb diet, and referring to it as
"Atkins", I thought I would ask that someone tell me, if they are doing a
non Atkins low carb approach, how well it works, and if they are still able
to lose as long as they get exercise and keep their carbs low, but not so
low that they are on an induction style of diet.

what I am thinking is that while the induction phase of Atkins served me
well, I have read success stories from people who have eaten anywhere from
75-125g of carbs a day and continued to lose.

See, I lost almost 20 lbs on induction, but I was never dangerously
overweight, I was at most, 190lbs, and 5 foot 7 inches, but am now anywhere
between 168-190, and as I am muscular and have bigger thicker bones, I LOOK
slim, but am not the same weight as the same guy at my work of similar
build, who is 140lbs on a "heavy day".

I am after about 2 months (of induction, following it to the letter, not
even eating 10g of carbs), now finding it particularly hard now to lose the
1 inch of fat on my stomach, and to lose weight, even 2 weeks ago before I
started "cheating" the diet... I leveled off, and after I got over my
terrible chest cold, I found that I had hit a plateau.

Lately I have added weight training, cardio, and trunk exercise, and I hope
that this can help to trim that 1 inch from my waist. its especially
annoying, since I think I am one of the most impatient people I know, and
need to learn patience.

so if you can describe a general low carb day, then perhaps that can help
me.

thanks.

My wife lost 17lbs on it. I think it to be more healthy also.

In article ,
says...

I'm doing the South Beach Diet...it is low-carb and low-fat....more =
balanced nutritionally than the Atkin's.

I am eating a mainly Paleo low-carb diet -- meat, fish, veggies, berries, nuts.

The only non-Paleo things I eat are coffee, chocolate, protein powder and a
small amount of dairy.

Otherwise everything I eat is minimally processed whole foods.

No grains, no refined sugar, nothing that cannot be eaten raw.

I am NOT doing the all-raw Paleo diet, but a simple Paleo rule to remember
is:if it cannot be eaten raw, it isn't Paleo.

There are lots of different ways to eat LC without being on AtkinsRobyn

Once you get rid of fake food

I never have eaten fake food. I gained weight while in a wheelchair for =
4-5 moths and then on crutches recuperating from an accident. There =
were three surgeries involved in getting my leg back together and I am =
just now able to start a semi-normal aerobic schedule. And then nature =
(menopause) set in slowing things down. You people make a lot of =
conclusions...I come from a type 1 diabetic family and showed signs of =
diabetes in my pregnancies. The South Beach Diet was approved by my =
doctor as a way to lower triglycerides and keep my pancreas in line. So =
far, it's working quite well. And the things you mention: lean meat, =
veggies, no starch, etc. have always been my eating lifestyle. A bit =
sanctimonious for a support group, aren't you?=20

I just object to the notion that any particular diet is superior to =
others overall.

I didn't say South Beach was better for anyone. I answered a question =
that asked what others were doing or what others knew about. Atkins may =
work for you. It does not work for me. Ornish certainly does not work =
for me. It obviously works for others. This is a discussion, not a =
contest.

In response to LD Whitley's post:

It just took us a while to adjust our
thinking and buying habits.

It was good that my wife and I did this together. If either of us had
tried to do it on his/her own, I sure it would have failed.

L

While researching for a term paper (decided to do it on LC dieting) I
came across a news story about "The Atkins Spousal Syndrome." It said
that the non-dieting members of the family often get the worst of it
because they tend to eat the high protein/fat foods the LC dieters have
on the table while still eating the high carb stuff as well. A
combination that nutritionists on both sides of the issue say is very
bad for your health.

So it's *really* good that both of you are on the diet together.

Sanctimony is coming onto a low carb newsgroup and announcing that your =
diet is
best.

I didn't post that, you didn't read that, or it you did, you certainly =
need to take a comprehension test. =20

which is why I objected to
a statement about your diet being more "balanced."

Since I have a doctor, a registered dietician, and facts to back that =
up, I guess I can make that opinion. My opinion is based on facts =
gained from reseaarch and past experience. Are you always this =
overwrought?=20
