Default Good LC Ice Cream

I don't do a whole lot of shopping at Albertsons here in San Jose, as
the Safeway store is more convenient. Often, however, the Albertsons
has a greater selection. I found an Ice Cream Bar that's quite good.
Made by Silhouette, it's called a SKINNY CARB BAR.

The thing that caught my eye was the list of ingredients. I had
previously been using Dreyers NSA ice creams. It comes in two
varieties (several flavors each), one just No Sugar Added and the
other No Fat as well as NSA. I don't care for the NF/NSA versions,
but thought the plain NSA weren't too bad. But even on those it is
reduced fat and the first ingredient is skim milk. On the Skinny Carb
Bars, the first ingredient is cream. It shows in the taste.

Two flavors so far, Vanilla Caramel Pecan (which has, truth to tell,
very little of caramel or pecans) and Chocolate Peanut Butter (which I
haven't tried).

Each bar is 4 oz and they come 6 to a container, with 3 net carbs
after subtracting fiber (5g) and sugar alcohol.

They apparently started with lowfat products, since they have many
more of those and their website is at skinnycow.com - but I'm glad
they're braching out. Their top page says "Available Now" (which it
is - at least here) while their new products page is still on "coming
soon", so my guess is this has just recently been released.

On the same shopping trip I picked up some Dannon CARB CONTROL yogurt,
also at 3g carbs per 4 oz. serving. I sampled the Raspberries &
Cream, and although I would have preferred it a tad sweeter is wasn't
bad either. It's good to see some choices being made available.

I'm curious, since you're in the San Jose area and I'm in the Lodi area,
how much did the Dannon Carb Control cost at that Albertson's? At my
Albertson's it's $3.49 for four little cups and I think that's
excessive, so I won't buy anymore, but I was just wondering.

I'm in St. Louis -- smack dab in the middle of the country, I suppose. I
found Dannon's at Schnucks (local chain) for $2.69. It was pretty good. I
also found Blue Bunny low carb, which is a bit larger per container (forget
exact size), with 5 grams of carbs, for .60 per container on sale. It was 10
containers for $6.00.

I did a taste test ;-)

I purchased Raspberry in both brands (to be fair). The Dannon's had
Raspberry seeds in it. I think I liked the Blue Bunny better. It was a
little sweeter, and there was more of it.

It's something I'll save for a treat now and then. And to make sure I get
enough calcium.

The price was about the same. It's a smaller =quantity= but similar
price =per container= to what I used to get. But since going LC I've
missed several foods that I'm willing to pay a premium on for a taste
now and then. I bought my first Breyers Carb Smart Ice Cream today
(I'll give it a try soon) and some lowcarb spaghetti. I don't need
spaghetti every day or even every week, but having it every now and
then makes it a lot easier (for me) to not have it =most= of the time.
