Day 21 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving
Day 21 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving
253/240/195 September 4, 2005 Got on my scales just now and the indicator said that I still weighed 240. Oh, well. If I'm not below 240 today, I will be soon. Struck me about 10 minutes ago (before I started in on my cup of antioxidants - oh, I mean coffee) that I'd like a scale that would measure regularly in finer units, perhaps ounces, to make more clear the changes that are occurring on the cellular level, because there are changes that are occurring at levels I cannot see. (At the same time I would not want to change my way of measuring morning weight - that is, not having to see my weight numbers if they are higher than the day before. For me getting on the scale is much more of a win-tie situation than a win-lose.) Went up my little hill yesterday with a 25 pound weight in my backpack. No problems and finished the walk up (from a stop sign at the bottom to a gate at the top) just shy of 32 minutes. Along the way I had a conversation with someone. Nose breathing all the way - except for the conversation. No problems with the walk at all and maybe I'm ready for this coming weekend to Middle Sister. (I have an image of the three mountains on my desktop and look at the middle mountain from time to time.) In thinking about my walk up the hill and my acclimation to nose breathing, I came to the conclusion that it's not that my body acclimated to the walk up the hill as much as I probably started breathing more deeply and continuously than before. That's good though, because at George Lake a month ago, walking uphill even a few steps from a dead stop would make me breathe heavily, and that's because at altitude (George Lake is about 7000 feet), I simply was not in the habit of breathing heavily before I started moving uphill. In the middle of a walk it's not bad, because one is already breathing heavily. And next week at the 10,000 foot level of Middle Sister... Had about a 1000 calories yesterday and I'm happy with that, even though 220 of them were at lunch. I'm trying to eat all my calories at dinner. It's a beautiful day here in Oregon - too nice to stay inside all day. Our daughter is coming over later as well as my wife's mother so we'll have a pleasant dinner here. (I keep encouraging them to laugh at my jokes.) I hope everyone has a great Sunday and a great rest of the month! Yours, Caleb |
