Default Day 24 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving

Day 24 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving
September 7, 2005

253/239/195

Got on my scale about 30 minutes ago and see that another pound has
gone - so now I'm 239 and quite close to 238. 14 pounds gone in 24
days.

I had about 1800 calories yesterday - I came back at midday and ate
something for lunch I shouldn't have, and also had chili and crackers
after a live cable TV show last night. (I got back home about 10:15
p.m.) Also because of the show, I didn't exercise. But today I will
be going up my hill with my pack on.

Superstitious conditioning is a real problem with dieting, I think. In
this instance, looking at the pound lost and at my eating and exercise
behavior yesterday, one could come to the (wrong) conclusion that the
weight loss is due to my eating more and not exercising. But I know
that this is wrongheaded reasoning. Weight loss and maintenance of
weight loss is something that takes place over a long period of time
- not simply a day or two, and for me, until yesterday, I had engaged
in daily exercise. Also, in spite of 1800 calories yesterday, I still
am substantially below the number of calories I need to maintain my
weight - probably a bit more than 3000.

At any rate, if I deviate from what I have been doing in the past
because of a temporary one-day loss, that would be a big mistake. (But
I think I will need to deviate a bit this weekend if I am going to have
a successful hiking trip. A few more calories on Thursday, Friday and
Saturday, I think.)

As the Hash House Harriers running group says, "On! On!"

I hope everyone has a successful day, week, month, and season ahead!

Yours,

Caleb

Caleb,
I am sincerely happy for your repeat of annual success and have an idea.

Why don't you post to us once a month after you reach goal with your
weight, activity and feelings throughout the coming year. i personally
would get great pleasure over hearing that you are able to protect your
fantastic weight loss and it would give you some small accountability.
