I had that happen several years ago. I was really surprised to find out
that the slip was really pink!

I was officially 'realigned' meaning that my department had no more need

for
me. I indulged in vodka that night. I was fortunate to receive several
months salary as severance which gave me time to build my own consulting
business. Since then, I am spectacularly happy with my career. It

occurs
to me that many people can say that! As bad as it feels, try to

remember
that whenever one door closes, others open.

You may have indulged in a little cheesecake but at least now you have

time
to exercise

Hope the job search goes well!

Awesome! You barely even got to enjoy unemployment.

Many people who have lost their jobs seem to land another that
is much better. When I got my pink slip 9 years ago I had to
restrain myself from jumping up and shouting "It's about time".
I was so glad to be out of there. They callled 80+ employees
into the cafeteria and told us we had one hour to gather our
things and be out of the building. We're talking about long
time employees. I had 26 years with the company and there were
some in the group who had been there as long as 40 years. I
left there with 6 months salary and a big smile on my face.
Many of us stopped at a local bar and celebrated. They called a
few days later and wanted to know if I would consider working as
a contractor for awhile. I told them no amount of money could
make me come back to that place. I landed my current job two
weeks later and it's the best move I ever made.

Doesn't that just say it all? I got my "permanant vacation"
slip on Friday - after finally completing a long, hellish tax
project. And

although
I'm not wallowing in self-pity, I did have a piece of
cheesecake after dinner that night. And again Saturday, and
Sunday, and....well at least

the
cheesecake is gone now! I ususally lose weight during stress
- so for

me
the hardest thing to do right now is keep eating. I've sent
out over 50 resumes just since Friday, and fortunately, my
unenjoyment check will be enough for me to scrape by on while
I'm searching for a new job. I

really
hate this... But there is a silver lining! My house is
SPOTLESS.

I wish I could share in all the optimism, but I was laid off in
2001 and I'm still unemployed, despite (conservative estimate)
1500-2000 resumes. I started two small companies to try to make a
living that way, both failed. Back to the resumes, send out 5 or 6
every day, not one interview or even phone call in over six months.
Anybody But Bush.

Hope things go better for you.
