Well I decided to start the Atkin's Induction again.

This is my third time doing this.

The first time was roughly 1.5 years ago and I managed to lose 40
pounds in a period of 4 months. I have kept about 25 of that off
since then.

The last time, last summer, I got my girlfriend to join in with me
but combined we both lasted less than a week.

This time, we both started again on january 1, 2005.

Nine days into it and my girlfriend has fallen off twice. Last night
was her birthday and it was free reign for her. I had no problem with
that. Me, I had a 1/4 of a roll and 4 french fries and felt quilty
eating even that. Except for last night and a slice of pizza 4 days
ago I've been pretty good

I've probably kept my carbs down well below 15 a day I know that for
sure, and Helene is closer to 20. She finds it harder to do as she
lives off mostly carbs throughout the day. Myself, I can live off
chicken alone if I could.

I decided to avoid the scale this time around. I don't care what I
weight now, never have, and I don't care what I want to weigh when I
am finished. I do know tho that I don't want my fat stomach anymore
but want to look physically fit or at least look healthy.

I do have a fair amount of muscle throughout from years of heavy
warehouse work but that is completely hidden under layers of fat.
I've been fat since I was a baby. I love food.

long winded but here comes the question...

does anyone have any quick meal ideas that can be made up in a pinch
for like snacks? Helene's getting tired already of some of the meal
options that she finds available.

Thanx
Mike

Try a piece of cheese.

Low carb should be a way of life. If you use it as a temporary diet, you
are likely to regain quickly afterwards.

I agree. If you're not going into this as a permanent change-why are
you bothering?

Did you ever go past induction? Atkins is a way of eating for life, not
just for weightloss.

Yikes! Not a good sign. If a person can't stick to something for only 9
days, how is he or she going to make a lifelong change?

Last night
was her birthday and it was free reign for her. I had no problem with

Uh. It's not about being "good" or "bad." That phraseology sets off alarm
bells. Everything you eat is just a choice. What matters is the pattern,
not each individual item. But, in order to start a pattern of unhealthy
eating, you have to start somewhere, and vice versa. Were the french
fries, roll, and pizza a momentary blip, or the beginning of a return to
unhealthy eating? It's all up to you and the way you view it.

I could be wrong, but I don't think chicken has all the nutrients your body
needs. ;o)

Bit of a warning he given the history of this group, and the things
we've heard here over and over, you may get some skepticism about having a
lot of muscle under the fat. Lots of people say that, but it's usually not
true.

I've been fat since I was a baby. I love food.

You're wasting your love on something that can't love you back. By all
means enjoy your food, especially nutritious foods that fuel your body.
Love your body instead. Learn to love and appreciate how it works, the
amazing things it can do. Treat it with respect and take it out to play as
much as possible.

Snaks for what situations? At home with fridge and microwave available, on
the road, at a desk at work, what?

Here are some of my favorite snacks:

Cheese
Hardboiled eggs
Celery sticks with natural peanut butter or cream cheese
Smoked salmon and cream cheese
Cold cuts and cheese

Hiya Michael
its not that they are trying to give you nagative feedback they are just
telling you how it is... we dont eat sugar so why should we candycoat
everyting or anything?

they are just saying that you will want to make this a life change a slip-up
is
fine but learn from it and move on with your LC WOL (way of life) believe
me this is not a diet, most people dont keep it off when they go back to a
"normal way of eating" I wish you luck and I hope you will stay and learn
from everyone, they know what they are talking about and some have done
this for many years. please dont feel that everyone is being rude they just
want
to help... thats not always done in a nice way.

Angie

Hi Michael, welcome to the group!

I decided to avoid the scale this time around. I don't care what I
weight now, never have, and I don't care what I want to weigh when I
am finished. I do know tho that I don't want my fat stomach anymore
but want to look physically fit or at least look healthy.

I bet you FELT better after losing 40 lbs. Looking good is great, but,
in my experience, it hasn't been enough to keep me on track. It's only
when I realized how much better I FELT after losing a lot of weight that
kept me WANTING to stay on track. The reason most diets fail is that
people go right back to eating the way they did before they started to
diet -- then they blame the diet for "not working" or "messing things
up". I used to feel that way, too.

I know it worked because I could definitely see the results. But for
some reason I fell off the track and am now finding it difficult to
get back on again. This time around I am doing pretty good. I am
fully aware of what I am putting into my mouth ( except for that 1
slice of pizza and those 4 fries the other night ) When you grow up
on eating carb based / rich foods it is difficult giving them up,
especially when everyone around you survives on these carb rich foods
at home and at work. I am trying and it is working for the most part.
I figure another 2 more days or so and I shouldn't have any other
problems. The withdrawals are killers but I am handling it.

if you were already acquainted with his style, why did you even pay
attention to him this time around?
