Thanks FOB,

I received a last minute call last Thursday (Sept. 9) to appear on ABC's
morning talk show, 'The View' on Friday (Sept. 10) and talk about low-carb
drinking. A very interesting experience.

After 2 timed dress rehearsals and the inability of the staff to find all
the ingredients I needed for all the drinks, we were later faced with the
fact during the show that the earlier spots were running over and The
Low-Carb Bartender spot would have to be shortened. (That wasn't in the
original script!)

The result was more 'Hollywood' then real. We had to pre-make most of the
drinks to save time (while they then sat, drowning in melted ice), not use
all the listed ingredients (since they couldn't find them), and then had to
deal with the fact that one of the co-hosts didn't consume alcohol.
Ah-h-h...live TV, Ya gotta love it!

You might have noticed the "reaction" from Elisabeth after sipping her
drink. She was the one, perhaps, who went a wee bit over the top on her
reaction to her drink. Problem was, however, in all of Manhatten, they could
not find any sugar-free almond or peach syrup, called for in the drink
recipe. Since we had to pre-mix everything at the last minute to speed up
the whole segment---no syrups and no booze---the drink was nothing more than
a lot of melted ice and Hood 2% dairy beverage. Apparently Elisabeth didn't
get the memo that the drink presented to her was nothing more than a prop.

BTW, Meredith was extremely nice, as was Star. Barbara, of course, is TV
royalty so you had to defer to her---but she's a real pro. She didn't want a
drink because the producers stuck a sign under the camera that we only had 3
minutes left. She saved us a good minute by simply asking a question
instead. It certainly is disconcerting, however, to have "hurry-up" signs
and producers spinning their fingers in a circle off-air to have you speed
everything up. Star also was good---helped me when I missed an ingredient by
mentioning it.

This was my 4th live and national TV show and what I've learned is that
getting the last segment is dangerous---earlier segments always run over and
make the last minutes of a show an heart stoppening example of "crunch
time." But as my wife says, " Quit your belly-aching and pour me another
drink. Just a few minutes on national television is better than no minutes."

P.S. If you go to the link I provided, they've moved the page. Just click on
'Sept. 6' and you'll find the recipes at the bottom of the page.
