This fast weight loss is part of the plan, as I understand it, Ig. Do you
remember any of Laureen's details? Ignoramus17955 wrote: Laureen, sorry to spoil the fun, but your rate of weight loss is very alarming. You lost about 12.5% of your weight in only one month, IIRC. That's a lot. I remember vaguely that there could be serious complications to heart muscles and gallbladder if weight is lost at a too high rate. If I remember right, you do not have medical insurance, but at the very least I would look into possible dangers of too rapid weight loss very closely and try to do your best at monitoring what is going on with you. I hope that your weight loss slows down to a more sane rate. It must be nice to be lighter though and to feel that you have some control. Congrats on that. |

Thank you doctor, being snide I just spoke to my surgeon this am about the size of my anti-inflammatory medicine. He was thrilled about the weight loss. We are all warned about the possibility of gall bladder problems with rapid weight loss. I do have insurance but it doesnt cover WLS so I had to pay for this myself. Remeber 12 of it I lost a week before surgery so I have lost 38 post op since Jan 31st. The one gentleman who had surgery a week after me lost 31 pounds during the clear liquid phase alone( the 10 days post op). Im not worried and Ig, you dont know everything! Starvation mode doesn't happen until your body lacks in readily available fuel systems, which Laureen's does not (yet!). Once you get quite thin, it gets MUCH harder to lose weight, despite caloric reductions because as you lose bodyfat there are significant hormonal changes that occur in the body. Fat cells are not neutral, they are an active part of the endocrine system. Anyway I'm not interested in an argument, so I won't respond to anything else on this topic, but I'm just suggesting that you might want to Google a bit more... Peace, Pen Pen, Cubit is right. Everything you say is hogwash. Invented by fat folks to give them an excuse to stuff their fat faces. PJ |

Ignoramus17955 wrote: Laureen, sorry to spoil the fun, but your rate of weight loss is very alarming. This is a pretty usual weight loss for the first month after bariatric surgery, and Laureen is under the care of a doctor. I'm sure her doctor is monitoring all of the necessary functions! T. |

Well today was a monumental day. Despite the ongoing knee pain that we are working on and a bladder infection I came out of the doctors office a happy woman. I have officially lost #50 pounds. 410 to exactly 360 in a bit over 5 weeks!!!! Im estatic to say the least. I lost 7 of it in the last 8 days. Gawd I feel good even in pain!!!!!!!! The doc told me people who keeping walking with arthritis do better in the long run rather than not walking on it. I ahve continued to walk despite to horrific pain. I toough it out during the day and take a Vicodin to sleep as I am all over the bed at night without narcotics. Great news on the weight loss. I wish you could find ways other than Vicodin to combat the knee pain, and I'm sure you have tried many of them. Have you tried wearing one of those heat-wraps while you walk? My mother-in-law has had good results from that. Also, have you tried soaking in a hot bath before you go to sleep? That might help you cut down on the amount of Vicodin you need. Good luck! T. |

Right on Roger! It's suppose to go like this. I am expected to be down
22% of my beginning body weight by the three month day and 10 days period of time. I have 38 more pounds to lose before my 90 days of puree is up on May 5th. By cracky, I think I'm gonna make it. Then when the puree period is over I get to start eating small amounts of regular food and he expects another 80 plus pounds minimum to come off in 12 to 15 months there after. He told me my total window of opportunity is 15 to 18 months. Im making the best of it. Wait til I start lifting in 10 days! I take one half of a 5/500 Vicodin. The pain is so incredible. It takes
the edge off. I'm a lightweight and do not take pills. I hate medicine. I have prided myself on never being changed to prescription drugs. Last night I took it and was up at 1am. I ended up finishing the night off in the recliner with a pillow under my knee. When it is slightly bent it feels better. I being a belly sleep seem to unknowingly rest my knee cap into the mattress and or pillow I try to use between my knees. The surgeon told me unless I can crush it or drink it no pills. My anti infammatory medicaine was an enteric coated pill and too big. I'm waiting for a call back for another pill I can crush. We are not done exploring our options. He mentioned some kind of injection made from chickens?!!!! He also mentioned special ointments made in a pharmacy that have medicine in them that is absorbed through the skin. Either way, I have a postive outlook on this and I WILL find comfort for somehow. Unless anyone in her has osteoarthritis in their medial compartment of their knee, they wont know the horrific pain!!! OMG!!!! I told the doc yesterday this is my time to shine. The sun is shining on me everyday even when it rains. I wake up happy depite the pain. Being fat is the worst pain in my book! I'm tough, I WILL get through this! Not much gets me down but the pain is wearing on me a bit. Laureen Trianna wrote: Great news on the weight loss. "Laureen" wrote in message ups.com... 410 to exactly 360 in a bit over 5 weeks!!!! Wow!! He said a good thing to do for the kneee is try to build up my quads and do some free weights with my feet down by ankle. I bet you're going to love free weights. Especially with the eye candy helping : ) I have nothing like your knee problems, but squats have helped me! He also suggested using 2 walking sticks like I am cross country sking when I am out walking. My sister has just started doing this - it's a new craze in the UK, I think it's called Nordic walking. She says it's very easy and fun to do once you get into the rhythm, and it's a good workout too. Nicky. -- A1c 10.5/4.5/6 Weight 95/77/72Kg 1g Metformin, 87.5ug Thyroxine T2 DX 05/2004 |

Obviously, you are needing the Vicodin right now, and your doctor is working with you on ways to find less toxic/addictive means of pain relief, which is great. I think we all worry about your having to take Vicodin on a tiny stomach ( ) but sounds like you and your doctor are working on it. Let's hope, too, that your weight loss will help with the pain...I bet it will! Good luck. T. |
