Last night DH and I went out to the wings place with his friend. DH and
friend ordered wings and cheese fries with ranch dressing dip. I ordered
ice water with a lemon wedge.

I knew we'd be going out so before we did, I ate a healthy dinner at
home (331 calories). I was really proud of myself for not caving in to
ordering anything at the wing's place and not even taking a bite of what
DH ordered.

Been there, tried that. The better thing to do, if you can, is allow
yourself one or two wings. Then you won;t feel deprived and wind up
eating something else later on to make up for it. Moderation works
much better in the long run than extreme eating patterns.

I have no extreme eating patterns. I've already established that it
doesn't work to have extremes. I've long since known that moderation is
the key. Thing is, I'd already had my treat for the week the day before
so I wasn't going to go out and eat wings. That would not have been
moderation, that would have been ridiculous overindulgence since I'd
already had my weekly food treat. I felt proud of myself for not eating
the food there that I know I didn't need.

Thanks Willow! It really was quite a victory for me because restaurants
can sometimes by my nemisis. I think "Hey we're out, having a good time,
I can have the onion rings..." I'm breaking myself of that thinking and
have done quite well with it. We're going out more and more these days
with summer here and our friends wanting to watch the ball games at the
wings place and so on. It's been a good test of my watching my eating
patterns. There are times I'll have the wings as my weekly food treat,
but since I'd already had my food treat the day before, I didn't need
the wings and was proud of myself for not indulging.

Thanks again for your support!

That's hard to do!

I'm curious, but not prying, so don't answer if you don't want to.
What kind of weight situation is your husband in?

My wife and I did this together, and that made a huge difference, I
think.

I'm curious by nature too Mitch so I don't mind the question. He needs
to drop about 20 pounds, but basically he's in fairly good health, no
high blood pressure/diabetes or that sort of thing. He doesn't take in
an extreme amount of calories generally. The hot wings and cheesy fries
are a once a week deal pretty much. I typically make dinner for us both
and I make something healthy on a regular basis so that helps.

He has a job where he's moving around a lot so he stays relatively fit
despite the extra 20 pounds. I'd like for him to join me at the gym and
he's thinking about it. I don't push him, but ultimately, I believe he
will do it as he seems to be heading in that direction. One thing I've
learned is that everyone has to come to exercise/healthy eating on their
own.

I agree. I would love for my husband to join me at the gym and really be
a part of the journey. In some ways, he is as he is very supportive of
me and helps me with my good food choices and the like. But it is much
easier if you're both involved in healthy eating/exercise together and
I'm glad you and your wife have been able to go at this together!

As you should be, it was a good accomplishment.
