I am shocked at the amount of weight I am losing. In fact, i would not
believe it if i didn't see it for myself. I was never really over
weight but started to look "soft". For years i have been watching what
i ate the "traditional" low fat diet. Slim fast or oatmeal in the
morning, dry plain turkey sandwich with lettuce for lunch. What a
waste of time. Been on Atkens now for only 5 days and have lost 9
pounds. I am working out daily and eating anything and everything that
the Atkens diet allows. My wife started the program 3 days before me
amd has dropped 7 pounds in 8 days. So for all you low fat, high carb
dieters out there -GOOD LUCK because you will need it.

You have not lost nine pounds of fat. It's mostly water.

However, you may continue to lose weight steadily if this diet is of a
type that works for you. All successful diets involve a cut in
calories. For some people, Atkins causes them to eat fewer calories
overall than they would otherwise; these people lose weight. If you're
in that category, you'll lose weight. You'll know for sure after a few
months of following the diet.

Yeah, I also want to hear from them in a year to see if
they are bored yet, plus I want to hear from them five
years from now to see if they have gained anything back.
Although I haven't lost any weight in a while, I have
cut my LDL in half and haven't put back any of the 40
pounds I lost in over 5 years.

Well, I am neither low fat nor atkins dieter, but in the first few
days the loss is fastest. You are losing mainly water and not fat. As
soon as you go off atkins, as one day you likely will, the water will
come back. Do not expect it to continue like that.

I do not mean to discourage you from your diet, just wanted to give
you some reality. Let's see where you are half a year from now.

What kind of exercise are you doing? None?

you're still enjoying the honeymoon period. you won't continue to lose
weight at that rate - especially if you don't have a lot to lose.

enjoy it while you can!

Congrats on your weightloss Larry! I'm glad you and your wife found what
works for you both. )
I just want to warn you so you don't get discouraged....it's very common to
have a pause in weightloss on low carb after the first couple of weeks. Just
stick with it and you'll start to lose again. It will be at a slower pace
but the old saying is still true. You didn't gain it in a few weeks so it's
going to take longer than a few weeks to get rid of it.

I suggest you take your measurements if you haven't already. You'll probably
find that during your slowest weight loss periods you're dropping inches
rather than scale weight.
Good luck to you both!

One day later...another pound.....that makes 10 lbs in 6 days. I have
been through your route for years. I am not new to this. Yes it works
but at a turtles pace. Yes I know that some of it has to be water but
tell that to my pants and my belt. As far as being bored? I just don't
get that logic at all. Salads with real dressing? Eggs and Bacon?
Cheeseburgers? Have not eaten like this in years. Bored ? I think not!
I was not looking to start a debate about low carb dieting vs. low
fat. I know the next debate about this will be about cholesterol so
please don't go there because I did my homework about that. The
percentage of scientific data written in the past two years now favors
low carb diets in reducing cholesterol and weight. The US department
of agriculture is presently doing a study over low carb diets also. If
you have any doubts I will gladly post the studys from the medical
journals to back this up.

did i say you were bored or would be? i said your weight loss will slow
down. unless you're a mutant, it's pretty much a certainty.
