Default Bugles, trumpets, and victory

Yesterday I was in the drugstore and saw cheese-flavored Bugles--a favorite
snack from when I cared less about my eating habits--on sale. The bag is
almost twice the size as normal and was only $2. So I "caved into the
temptation" and figured I would try the magic of portion control. Everything
in moderation.

I was still full from dinner when I returned home so the Bugles went
unopened into the pantry. A first; so I am making some progress.

Today I decided to have one serving. I dutifully measured out one 1-1/3 cup
serving worth 160 calories. With much anticipation I ate the first one and
thought, "These things really aren't that great." I didn't finish the rest.
Sound the trumpets; Matthew didn't finish an allocated portion of snacks.

Anybody need 13 servings of Bugles for a SuperBowl party?

Along that vein, I can throw in an unopened box of low-fat triscuits that DH
and I brought on an ice fishing expedition. The cheese and sausage was all
consumed by everyone (fatty food is good in 10 degree weather).
Miraculously those crackers have sat in the pantry for 3 weeks now
untouched. They aren't even appealing to me, but DH used to attack those
things. The oreo thin crisps in the 100 calorie packs were given a new home
after 2 weeks of not being touched.

WTG Matthew! I only watch the commercials so I never buy snacks for the big
game. I think many people get real selective on how they spend their
calories after they've been dieting for awhile. I want something special
and not just the run of the mill junk food when I indulge in it

LOL Great story! Congratulations on becoming selective and recognizing
your tastes have changed.

No thanks - I have a bag of my favorite potato chips all ready and
waiting for me. I never buy them for any other event. It will shock me
if they don't taste wonderful.

Isnt that the truth! Sometimes our 'rememberence' of past foods we
inhaled are not as good as we once thought. Could it be that eating
healthy stuff retrains our tastebuds? Similarly, I craved for possibly
weeks a velveta grilled cheese sandwich (hadnt had one for years
actually so I dont know why I wanted one) and when I did gave in, it
surprised me that it did not meet my expectations of food nirvana that
I fondly remembered! Funny how that happens ...

WTG. I'm retraining myself to realize when I feel full. Plus, when I
feel full, to not eat more.

Today I decided to have one serving. I dutifully measured out one

1-1/3 cup
serving worth 160 calories. With much anticipation I ate the first

one and
thought, "These things really aren't that great." I didn't finish the

rest.

TTttOoOoooOOOOoOtTTTOOTOTTTAaAaaaaa!!!! Wahoo, your crankin'!!!!!
I can't be trusted with multi-serving snacks. If it doesn't come in
individual servings pre-packaged, I know it's a mistake to get it.
OTOH, I did decide to eat only two of the six splenda oatmeal rasin
cookies I bought home from work. I almost caved and ate three of them,
but my DH helped me remind myself I had decided to only have two. It
still amazes me he can eat one or two of something and save the rest
for later.

I know I can't trust myself to do portion control on something like
that. If it doesn't come in a single serving package, I do my best
not to get it. Way to go, Matthew.

That's awesome Matthew! WTG!!! Thanks for sharing your story. I think all
the little successes will add up to a huge overall success!

The same thing happened to me the last time I was "dieting". I used to love
chips with Philadelphia dip. I'd eat the whole thing by myself! After
several months of eating low fat I decided to buy them as a treat. I tried
a handful and instead of tasting heavenly as I had expected, it was very
disappointing. I felt sick from it. It felt so heavy in my stomach. I put
it back in the fridge/cupboard where they sat for a while and then I threw
them out. Never thought I'd do that! I have eaten them since (after I fell
off my WOE) only eat a bit at a time, but it's never been the same. And I
don't miss them now.
