Sashimi is sushi minus rice. There are a lot more details than that in the exact dishes but when it comes to counting carbs it really is that easy. The leaves that are served with sashimi are ultra low carb. The shredded daikon served with either sushi or sashimi are also ultra low carb as they are radish. |

Going with the more expensive sashimi to avoid the rice, what exactly is in the rice is much less important to low carbers. At least until maintenance and then depending on your own personal carb quota. Sushi, for most people, is made with vinegar rice. It's not necessary to add sugar. The vinegar is to make it more pliable and sticky. Do some places use sugar for that purpose? I have seen chefs on TV making sushi rice but I don't remember the exact ingredients. |
