Unfortunately I can't see your photo, but would you care to elaborate? Many
folks are loosing big pounds and keeping it off, while at the same time
eliminating the worst of the carbs that kept us from loosing in the first
place. Been on other diets and done them. Low carb is the way: it works.

I agree. It's yet another fad that the sheeple follow,
and folks are making plenty of money off of it.

Not true. The total cost for me has been $10 for the Atkins book and not
another cent spent on anything but normal food. Remember that MANY common
foods are naturally low in carbs so there's no need to spend big bucks on
non-necessities.

My advice: Forget the hype, and consult a reputable doctor

And you don't think doctors charge enough these days? What is health
coverage costing per year for someone who runs their own business, such as
myself?

I've been on low carb for 4 months now and love it. I got my blood
test results today: my tryglycerides dropped from 165 (normal limit is
149) to 93, cholesterol dropped from 180 to 161 and my "good" to
"total cholesterol" ratio is a perfect 3.3:1!

Congratulations! That's what I've been saying. The cholesterol numbers
should improve in most people unless there is a health related problem
causing the higher numbers. A lot of folks are fearing Atkins and other low
carb diets because they fly in the face of conventional diets and thinking.
This is unfortunate because obesity and diabetes have become epidemic, yet
they still pound the low fat diets at us!

why anyone would go for low-fat without trying low(er) carb is beyond
me.

1500-2500 kcal/day is plenty of caloric headroom for some good-tasting
foods, once you cut out the sugar and starch.

Mainly because you can eat a lot more on low-fat, given that
carbohydrates and proteins only have 4 Kilocalories per gramme, whereas
fats have 9. Do the arithmetic.....

That, of course, is the big trouble with the low-fat band-wagon;
pre-made foods that are touted as "low-fat" very often have extra sugar
added, thus undoing all the good that cutting out surplus fat might do.
I think that if you are serious about losing weight and/or eating
healthily, you will prepare most of your food from scratch, thus
maintaining control of what goes into it.

Having said that, why do so-called "low-fat" yoghurts *have* to have
artificial sweetener added? It does taste so disgusting.

I've recently discover Total (the brand name) Greek-style yogurt,
which comes in regular fat and also fat-free. It has no added
sweetener, and even the fat-free is unbelievably creamy. I don't know
if/where it's available in the UK, though.
