This is unfortunate because obesity and diabetes have become epidemic,

yet
they still pound the low fat diets at us!

why anyone would go for low-fat without trying low(er) carb is beyond
me.

Mainly because you can eat a lot more on low-fat, given that
carbohydrates and proteins only have 4 Kilocalories per gramme, whereas
fats have 9. Do the arithmetic.....

You can eat a lot on a low carb diet also

A lowcarber can easily afford a few pounds of vegetables, and some eat
this way.

1500-2500 kcal/day is plenty of caloric headroom for some good-tasting
foods, once you cut out the sugar and starch.

That, of course, is the big trouble with the low-fat band-wagon;
pre-made foods that are touted as "low-fat" very often have extra
sugar added, thus undoing all the good that cutting out surplus fat
might do.

Capitalists are ruining low carbing in a similar way, also.

I think that if you are serious about losing weight and/or eating
healthily, you will prepare most of your food from scratch, thus
maintaining control of what goes into it.

Right. Commercial food is designed to make the person overeat (to buy
more of it).

You see, in their original form, both low carb and low fat diets told
dieters to cut out junk food. That alone probably accounted for much
of their success.
