I'm having a hard time getting back into the right frame of mind for
losing weight. I lost 60 pounds previously but have stayed the same
for the last year or so and need to lose 70 more. What's your best
advise for getting your thinking in line?

Devise a plan, and stick to it. Do it every day. Initially, you have to
totally immerse yourself in it. I created spreadsheets to track how many
calories I ate, how many I burned in exercise, and how much I weighed on a
daily basis and had a colorful and interesting graph chart tracking all. I
wrote down every bite I ate at www.fitday.com, researched things about
metabolism, nutrition, etc. I became very anal! But I was totally and
completely involved in my weight loss. It was on my mind ALL the time.
Exercise EVERY day. Even if all you do is a 5 minute walk around the
neighborhood, it counts. The next day do 6, then 7, and track it all. Take
body measurements with a tape measure in all sorts of places...neck, upper
arm, chest, waist, belly, hips, thigh, calf, wrist, etc. Track these on a
weekly basis. Buy a polar heart rate monitor and track not just your
calories burned, but the duration, and heart rate. You will see progress in
how long you go, and improvements in heart rate.

I was so involved in it, it became a habit like brushing my teeth. I'm not
saying this approach will work for everyone, and I know I was totally anal
about it. But there were days that the scale weight didn't change, or even
went up, but with all the tracking, there would be improvements in strength,
or a measurement would shrink, and I knew I was doing something right.
Also, I became really educated about my body. With all the tracking, I
began to see patterns - I know now that too many carbs or a salt heavy meal
will yield a gain on the scale the next morning. I know that if I do a
heavy workout I usually weigh more too. I know what foods make me feel
good, and which ones slow me down. I basically learned alot about my body.

Anyways, this is my experience! You have to find what works for you.

A real motivator for me is my health. As you get older the quality of
your life becomes more focused as you compare yourself to family,
friends, coworkers etc. and you realize that much of yours and or their
'health issues' are related to weight.
I dont want to be like some of my coworkers who take eight
prescriptions a day yet dont/wont do the obvious thing to lose weight
to improve thier health. You lose 10+lbs thats a bonus for your knees,
and you might be able to walk a flight of stairs without wheezing.
Three overweight people in my office have sleep apnea and use a mask to
breath at night, - none have considered that its time to get real
about their weight issues. People stopgap and are in denial while their
health suffers greatly. I dont want to be like them. I dont want to be
the not so elderly overweight person in the grocery store on an air
supply canister and or using a motorized cart to get around. Many other
scenarios, but you get my drift. Being independant as I age is very
important to me. Really THINK about why its important for you to lose
these last 70lbs. Write them down. Make goals. Get started. Plan what
you want to do and how you are going to do it and take small baby steps
until you gradually make it all part of your lifestyle. Progress, not
perfection is my goal. :-)

When I get in a motivation slump, I remember why I'm doing this.. I write it
down.. you know.. to be healthy, sure, to be slimmer, sure, took look good,
he.. yeh!

;o) Why are you doing this? Why is it worth the effort?

Then make a plan, and stick to it, if you step aside, get right back on
it... until it's second nature..

decide how bad you want this...if you really want to be thin you'll
find a way to eat less and get through the hunger...i only lose weight
by getting hungry and staying that way...not starving but hungry

Get extremely busy for a couple of days. Find a friend that needs help
with some chores and go help them out (exercise). Then, by the third
day, you will not have been tempted with food and your body will have
adjusted to being back on your diet. When you lose momentum go get
busy again.

Or at least it works for me anyway. ;-)
