Default Feedback on my "diet"

Fitday is a miricale. I discovered a lot of things. First I discovered
several reasons why I couldn't loose weight. The first thing I discovered
was that too much fat was not responsible for my weight. In the past I
watched my fat intake, but never looked at carbs, expecially sugar.
Using fitday I discovered how much sugar I was taking each day. About 75
percent of my daily intake was carbs.

Secondly, I couldn't understand why I was not loosing weight. Most of the
days I ate a thousand calories less than what I burnt. But there were some
days, once or twice in a week when I gave myself over to the cravings for
unhealthy foods. Looking at one of fitday's reports, I discovered that, on
average, I burnt less than a hundred calories more than what I ate. Now I
can focus on those "craving days" to ensure that my total calories eaten is
less.

I also discovered the effect of chocolates on the way I am feeling. About
two months ago, I felt like having a nervous breakdown. I was tired,
regardless of how much I slept. I couldn't understand it. After being away
for about two weeks, I was a different person. I thought it was because I
went on vacation.

Although the time away from work did contribute, it was a recent "craving
day" that opened up my eyes. About a week ago I found myself craving for
sugar. I am, unfortunately,not very active and do no sports. We had a sprts
day at work (two days in a row) where I got more exercise than what I got in
the past year. That all happened on a Friday and Saturday. The next Monday,
I started to drink at least two litres of water daily. On the Tuesday my
body craved for sweet stuff and I was obedient. I had muffins and cookies.

Later that day I bought a friend a gift: A box of chocolates. During the
night the cravings started again. When I woke up the next morning, there
was nothing left of the chocolates . I had a lot of trouble getting up and
was deadly tired throughout the day. Out of a little guilt, I cut my sugar
with about 80% for the rest of Wednessday. On Thursday, I was a different
person. I had no trouble at all getting out of bed and felt great during the
day.

I thought about the lifestyle I had two months ago and my eyes opened. I
had chocolates two or three times a week, and lots of it.

SO now I stay away from chocolates. I bought my friend a book :-), and I am
sure he will remember me for longer.

Really good observations on your part One thing I learned during my
initial weight loss was to reward myself with things other than food and I
sort of let that overflow into the gift giving area. I also stopped giving
out candy as a reward to my students - they get cool looking pencils,
differently shaped erasers, super balls (the little ones that bounce really
well), and other little things that I get on sale.

BTW, in the Body For Life program there is one free day a week, there's a
number of reasons Bill Phillips gives for this, but one of them is that it
helps some people eventually realize how crappy eating leads to feeling
crappy.

You are doing a great job so far...keep it up!

Congratulations on using these experiences to learn more about your
body and what it does and doesn't need. I don't "ban" sugar from my
WOE, but by the very nature of keeping within 1500 calories and eating
lots of healthy foods this leads to a drastic reduction in sugar when
I stick with my WOE.
I don't know that I have an "allergy" to sugar, but certainly I feel
crappy for the first couple of days when I get back to my WOE after a
binge and I put this down to withdrawal symptoms. When I overeat
sugary foods after not doing so for a while I feel crappy, sleepy and
not too good at all. This tells me that sugar levels certainly have
some effect on my body and I try and keep them reasonably low and
constant.

Fitday is a great tool and it looks like you've learned to use it to your
advantage. I find I do a lot better when I keep the carbs under control,
too.

Isn't it unreal? The first time I used Fitday to track an average "before"
day, I about fell out of my chair. I couldn't believe how unhealthy my diet
was.

Thanks for the encouragement. I feel great about today. I reached my
calories goal, and drank 3 litres of water. Not only do I feel better about
my diet, but my day was much more organized and I got lots of things done.

Your letter expressed exactly what I experienced. I think the first step in
weight loss is discovering what and how you actually eat.
