Grapefruit diet update
I've stopped drinking 8 oz of grapefruit juice before each meal as of
today. Final tally of weight lost: 5 pounds over 4 months. Most of the loss was in the first month. Another benefit: my blood pressure is a bit lower: 110/70 vs 115/75. That may be because of the high potassium content of the juice. So why have I quit? 1) for some reason the juice was making me urinate more frequently (possibly irritating my prostate 2) my chol numbers have been creeping higher. 3) my blood sugar numbers are higher. How much of my weight loss was just water? Hard to say - but increased potassium acts as a water pill might. I'm replacing the grapefruit juice calories with healthy fats - mainly olive oil, almond butter, and peanut butter. (almond and peanut butter are about 70% fat by calories). |
