General advice please
Hi all,
have been reading the post for some time, but this is my first. I am a 60 year old male, who has lived alone 4 years since divorce. I was advised to loose some weight because of a knee problem, I work in a hospital, and asked for advice on which diet to follow, and was told it would be better to change my eating and life style habits, rather that use a diet plan and then most likely put it back on when going back to my old ways. I have reduced the portion size and gone to lower fat food, no sugar, no puddings, threw away the frying pan, now grill. and six months later I have gone from nearly 17 stone at 5'7" to 14 1/4, and feel much better, cycle most of the time. in general is olive oil highly fattening? I have replaced my normal snack type treats with mixed nuts and sultanas, are there ok within reason? thanks for any feed back. Mick. |

Any type of oil is fattening! One thing for sure is that a small amount of
olive oil is good to have on a daily basis. Also, there are some other good oils as well. Corn oil, and canola oil are other good oils that you can have. It is not good to cook or fry with olive oil. For cooking, you can use corn oil, or canola oil as well. You should not exceed about 60 to 100 grams of total fat per day. This is the complete day of eating all combined. You can have something fried, but very limited, and not have adverse effects. Naturally, the less fried foods you have, the better off you are. Eat only boiled, or grilled, or baked foods. Take no butter or added fats with anything you eat, if at all possible. This will help reduce your weight. You can then use only a little bit of olive oil, or some other type of healthy oil in your salads, or whatever else foods you want. If you eat a lot of fish, you will get Omega 3 fats. This is very good for raising the HDL in the blood. Eat mainly light meats, such as chicken, turkey, or very lean ham, or very lean veal. Once a week it is good to have a piece of red meat to get the iron. A piece of liver is also a very good thing to have about once every week to once every two weeks. The main foods should be salads, fruits, beans, and various grains. Take care to not have more than about 4 to 6 ounces of meat at any one meal. Wait about 2 to 3 hours after eating, and then do an aerobic exercise program. Taking exercise classes for kick boxing, tiebow, or karate will also help to make you loose weight. These workouts will help you to build up muscle, and to have your carteo system back in to shape. You do not have to do the exercises to the extent that they will cause harm. They should be done with an acceptable moderation for what you can take. Exercise will also increase the HDL factor in the blood, and lower your body fat, which will help reduce the risk of a carteo event. This also lowers the risk of diabetes. When you are at work, try to walk as often as possible. Try to do things where you have to move around to get things done right. If you have a sore knee, see if there is a way to do as much as possible without disturbing the knee. -- I had a big weight problem about 4 years ago. I made up my mind, and lost about 60 lbs. I am following a very strict diet, and doing full workouts just about every day. There are some days, where I do the workouts twice. When people see me, they cannot believe the change. The whole thing is common sense, and following the proper life style routine. -- Jerry G. ===== "Mick." wrote in message ... Hi all, have been reading the post for some time, but this is my first.
