Is there bread I can eat during phase 1 south beach diet?
During a recent vacation I put on 10 pounds. Now I'm dieting to take
them off, but I've gotten lazy and sometimes don't want to cook eggs in the morning. I'd rather have a couple of slices of bread and some low-fat cheese with my morning coffee. Is there any bread available in supermarkets or health-food stores that is compatible with the south beach diet phase 1? |

Cook some hard boiled eggs and have them on hand and skip the bread and eat high fat cheese maybe triple fat brie and coconut oil in your coffee. -- Gambling with Other People's Money is the meth of the fiscal industry. me -- in the spirit of Karl and Groucho Marx |

I'm no expert on SB, but I don't think any bread would meet the rules for phase 1. There are LC breads available, Pepperidge Farm makes one that is 5g carbs per slice. Could you have a slice or two of that and still be successful? Maybe. It depends on the person. For some with less metabolic resistance, for example, it could be fine. For others, maybe not. |

Get some Quest bars, very low carb, no gluten, high protein, no work. I
nuke them for about 30 seconds and they are like a cookie or sweet roll. Gary wrote: | During a recent vacation I put on 10 pounds. Looks interesting. I really don't miss bread and never was a big sandwich
eater but I know a lot of people are. I will have been low carbing for 10 years next month so I am pretty well past looking for substitutes but I am happy to find easy things as I am increasingly lazy. I'll bet it doesn't taste very good. And you're probably not going to find it locally. And it's $8 a loaf. The Pepperidge Farm CarbStyle is available in supermarkets, at least here in NJ, it's only $4 and it tastes like real bread. At 5g carb per slice, if you use it in moderation, it should fit into a LC diet. |

I'm the OP of this question and want to express my appreciation to several of you. I wound up using Walter's suggestion, boiled a bunch of eggs for the lazy mornings, and also following the advice of several others of you who said trying to find the right bread was folly. THANKS! |
