IE if I were to redo it this week it would have fewer errors since I have more automated software to weed out such errors. Ohhh a weblog. whats the address and what is wrong with celine dion ? "Chris Taylor Jr" wrote in message ... but memories are retained. if a troll sees me post again he will be less inclined to start a fight with me since he knows it could result in a large investment of his or her time. they will move onto easier prey. I disagree. For the most part, trolls like fights. They prefer to aggravate strangers but they will pretty much take anyone who will rise to the bait. When they consider the time investment a waste, because it no longer amuses them, they will desist. The reason people are still attacking you is because they are having fun making fun of you. And you are making it very easy for them. Note you claim stopping would show maturity etc.. this implies that not stopping shows immaturity. what does this say about the "others" who still persist. remember I will stop when they stop. They have not stopped. I haven't commented on their maturity or lack of it. Nor will I. But I do think that realizing that not every dispute has to be "won" is a sign of maturity. Duffy |

well we are entitled to our opinions.
Has she changed somehow ? I am still listening to CD's I got several years ago. either way my musical taste is "odd" to say the least. if you were to pass me in my car you would have a very good chance of not hearing celine dion but hearing something in japanese chinese or thai. (nope do not know of word of any of them) Chris Taylor http://www.nerys.com/ "eff" wrote in message ... "Dawn Taylor" wrote... I never said I HAVE to win this. I simple want to with some assumptions in
place. Chris Taylor http://www.nerys.com/ I haven't commented on their maturity or lack of it. Nor will I. But I do think that realizing that not every dispute has to be "won" is a sign of maturity. Duffy |

As someone who originally started out agreeing with you, I have to ask: Why is it that you're so dogged in denying that it's not a cut-and-dried issue? Because to me, it is cut and dried. I think two spaces is wrong. Usually, people don't have to preface every single thing they say with "I think" or "in my opinion," because that would be redundant. I admit to having never heard of the "two spaces" thing before now. I write professionally and, in my area of writing, it wouldn't be acceptable. But it only took a few minutes with a search engine to come up with any number of references to the practice and a number of respectable sources that said that, while no longer necessary, it was still grudgingly accepted in some areas -- and even the standard in some. Well, if you read about it on the internet, it must be true. It's okay to admit that you're not the ultimate authority on the subject, even this late in the game. I never claimed to be the ultimate authority. But I still think two spaces is wrong. Mathilda |

Strange thread. I taught typing many moons ago and remember when word
processors first appeared, the college prerequisite for WP courses was a pretty high typing standard, i.e.: 60 WPM. One spacing in typing class would have flunked you out of attaining that. Until now, I had no idea the world changed to one spacing. My fondest memory of the old days was emerging from a WP seminar in Buffalo wearing a huge button that read 'My Wang Can Do Wonders'. Pepere A bona fide, carb-forlorn, frying purple Keto pee-er. (and a 2-spacer to boot) |

Because to me, it is cut and dried. I think two spaces is wrong. I'm not sure if you didn't understand my question or if you're being deliberately obtuse. You've been presented with ample evidence that it's *not* a cut-and-dried issue. No matter what you think. You've been shown that, while there are those who share your view, there are others -- professional sources -- who do not. It's okay to have your opinion. But that's all that it is -- your opinion. And it's not the final word word on what's "right" in this case. Usually, people don't have to preface every single thing they say with "I think" or "in my opinion," because that would be redundant. Well, no. But as much as I hate beets, if I say "beets have no place on the dinner table, ever" there will be any number of people who can prove to me that beets are, indeed, a vegetable of choice for many people. For me to continue to argue otherwise would be madness. I would think that someone who makes such a big deal out of claiming to be a professional writer would have some small understanding of semantics. I admit to having never heard of the "two spaces" thing before now. I write professionally and, in my area of writing, it wouldn't be acceptable. Personally, I think the Chicago Manual of Style carries enough to weight to at least prove that your opinion isn't shared by professionals across the board. It's okay to admit that you're not the ultimate authority on the subject, even this late in the game. I never claimed to be the ultimate authority. But I still think two spaces is wrong. I still hate beets. But I'm not going to spend hundreds of hours of my life arguing on Usenet that no one else wants to eat them, either. And actually you are, in effect, claiming to be the ultimate authority by doggedly insisting that you and you alone are correct in this. Dawn |

I would think that someone who makes such a big deal out of claiming to be a professional writer would have some small understanding of semantics. You're tying to substitute something that is completely a personal preference (liking beets) with something that books on punctuation and style manuals have actually been written against (two spaces). Personally, I think the Chicago Manual of Style carries enough to weight to at least prove that your opinion isn't shared by professionals across the board. If you knew anything about the Chicago Manual of Style, you would know that it says there is no reason for two spaces after a period in published work. http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/C...q/cmosfaq.html Type "space after a period" in the search ... it wouldn't give me a direct link. I still hate beets. But I'm not going to spend hundreds of hours of my life arguing on Usenet that no one else wants to eat them, either. But you'd spend time arguing with someone who did... obviously. Even if you agreed with them. And actually you are, in effect, claiming to be the ultimate authority by doggedly insisting that you and you alone are correct in this. I will say it yet again - I never claimed to be the ultimate authority. I just think two spaces is wrong. Mathilda |
