Default Progress hard to measure..

Well, most of you don't know me. I've been lurking here
occasionally and post once in a while, but here's my situation:

I'm broke, alone and unemployd (2.5 years), a major part of the
weight-loss challenge.

I'm fat, but working on it, with some success, however.

Usually, I do nautilus (low-cost YMCA program for us broke people)!
I have a treadmill at home and do that 30 minutes 2-3 times perweek
on non-nautilus days.

Here's the trouble: Since doing weight training, I've increased my
lean mass in leg ans chest, some in shoulders, so my weight is
going UP, not down. I started this in September at 245, I'm now
249.

At age 49, I know this will be slower, but how can measure progress
without one of those expensive body-fat electro-resistance things?
(Saw one $9 on ebay, but I'm sure it's crap).

Here's what I ate today, which is typical:

Br: Coffee (with half/half), low-fat corn muffin
one sugar cookie (3-inches diameter roughly)
Lu: mini-chef salaf from grocery store (splurged and ate the
dressing with it today, usually toss it ans use fatfree)

Sn: Bowl of oatmeal, skim milk

Di: (haven't eaten it yet!) will be lean cuisine chicken something
or other.

Sn: "Lite" english muffin with soy margarine, one half with jam
(real, another minor splurge, the sugar free stuff is atrociaous)

That's it! An occasional overnight bowl of oatmeal, (overnight
eating runs in the family, as well as diabetes)

I know if eliminate all the *little* splurges, I'll end up with one
BIG one (i.e. quart of ice cream), so I allow myself those.

What's the deal? I'm about to chuck it all and hook-up the vacuum
and do a self-liposuction.

Get a tape measure. Track your measurements with tape. You can usually
find a seamstress tape measure at Walmart in the craft department as cheap
as about $1.

Dally can post a couple sites that have formulas for measuring BF% via tape.

personally I use mine to measure progress. Inches lost as oppossed to
weight lost. Working out makes a big difference there.

Thanks! I wondered where you find those. My metal Stanley just
doesn't work!
