advice needed
Hi All
Okay I am looking for advice, I am not over weight and after looking things up I am actually my ideal weight but I feel I have some excess fat about that I need to shift and I also want to get into shape, I gave birth to my baby girl 7 months ago so yes this is possibly where most of my belly flabby bits come from. I am currently just doing exercise to Davina McCalls power of three I think it's called which is really good, I only do this once a week but should I be doing it more???? I would also like adive on my eating habits, I currently don't eat very healthy at all as far as I'm concerned but havign a poor upbrining I also don't really have any ideas for healthy eating. I tend to munch out on unhealthy foods such as curries, mc d's, KFC, kebabs etc etc, I occasionly eat things like HM lanagne, Shephards pie and spag bog, is that healthy food???? I would also like to find out if there is any ideas with Mash pot as I am a fussy eater and tend to reach on Mash pot as I find the texture really blughhhhh, I am also fussy with vegatables, I will eat small amounts of carrots if they are in things like sheps pie but dont like them freshly boiled, I like them fresh in small amounts, I like roast parsnip, can't stand brussles, fussy with cabbage and cauliflower. I find that veg is tastless and nasty. I really am a fussy eater and like things like stir frys and things with what I call a twist, I find sunday roast nasty and boring, I hope someone can help me because I really want to change my eating habits, not only for myself but for my husband and my baby girl who's going to want to see mummy eatign healthy otherwise how can I expect Joanna to want to eat healthy. Google is your friend. There are thousands of websites out there to learn what is healthy and what isn't. I find that veg is tastless and nasty. Get over your fussiness before you teach it to your innocent children. Learn how to use seasonings to flavor the blander tasting veggies. I rely a lot on olive oil, butter, Morton's Nature Seasoning, salt, pepper and garlic to flavor them. I boil them in chicken Bouillon which adds flavor. I have no idea what a Mash pot is. I'm in the USA. Try doing them every other day. Once a week isn't likely to make much difference. You just said yourself they're UNHEALTHY - so why ask? ;o) No I know Mc d's and KFC are obviously very unhealthy but what about curries such as rogan josh, chicken tika and stuff like that and what about shephards pie and spaghettie bolognaise, are they also unheathy?? I have no idea what a Mash pot is. I'm in the USA. Mashed potatoe. I don't know what those things are. Here in the USA a healthy diet consists of baked, broiled or boiled chicken or other meats including fish. Eat them free of fattening sauces and gravies. Skip all gravy made with fat or flour. Avoid all products made with flour such as bagels, whitebread, cake, spaghetti, pies, cookies and that sort of trash food. Avoid FRIED foods. Toss the candy and all chips and dips. Cut back on foods that are high-carb. They fatten people as well as hogs and cattle. Eat a lot of veggies - use a little butter and a lot of seasonings. I have no idea what a Mash pot is. I'm in the USA. Mashed potatoe. That's a high-carb food so you would do good to omit or limit the amount you eat. Stick with fresh foods like meat from the butcher section and a lot of fruit and veggies from the FRESH produce section. Second best would be frozen. Canned last. April Welcome, Try doing your workouts 3 to 4 times a week. Every other day or something along those lines. As for food - start slow to try and change your habits. It took me a couple years to get away from fast food and restaurant food and junk food and into healthy eating. Now, if I walk into a McD's I can't stand the smell of the grease, and don't like the slimy feeling it leaves on the roof of my mouth and I've also become so sensitive to salt in food that my fingers swell withing 1/2 hr of eating salty foods. Don't get me wrong - I love to eat and I love food. I try for something I call an 80/20 plan. 80% of the time I try to eat healthy, 20% of the time I get some junk. So I still eat chips and cookies and chocolate, etc. But I also eat lots of home cooked meals with lean meats, lots of veggies (fresh, whole and cooked) fruits, dairy and grains. To start, try making a goal of having one meal a day being healthy (try your evening meal - dinner) Have some lean meat, a good veggie (salad, or steamed veggies using some good seasoning or dressing on it for flavor) and some grains. There are tons of really good healthy recipies out there, and this group will share alot. Check out the posts that some people make with their daily food intake and if you see something that sounds appealing to you - ask for the recipe - the group here is always willing to share. If you can make a goal to eat one meal a day healthy, it will eventually come in time. You'll find when you eat healthy you do feel better. Your energy levels increase (and you will need those with a baby around) and when you eat junk you don't feel as well. Good luck and keep posting. |

She asked what *healthy* food is, and I gave her a list of the best possible foods to eat. They're also the least fattening when eaten in moderation. Unfortunately they are just something your going to have to learn to enjoy. Curries are bad generally however you can look at some alternatives. Go for Tandoori options and not the slow pot cooked types which are ridiculously high in fat thanks to the use of ghee. Try to use brown rice instead of white and try the veggie curry options. Your best off limiting them as much as possible but hey, life is to be enjoyed, everything in moderation and all that. Try making them at home rather than takeaway. Spag Bog.... Apart from being high-carb I reckon you can put together a reasonably healthy version if you use lean mince, some veggies and perhaps even wholemeal pasta. Again, probably best limited to once in a while but its not necessarily fundamentally evil. Mashed potato, I cant quite figure out if your for it or against it? Its carb heavy so best avoided if your looking to lose weight. Definitely go easy on adding butter if you do have it. KFC & McD etc. Shocking, do yourself a favor and keep well away. You'll be surprised that you can actually live a happy life without them, I think its an addiction as much as anything and once you've broken the cycle there is no going back. Kebabs... If done well a much better fast food option. Find a quality outlet and stick to it, go easy on the garlic sauce. Again, all of these are foods best limited if you are looking to lose weight. I cant really tell from the original post if that is something you are actually trying to do, I have no idea what size you are. You really should be concentrating on chicken breasts, lean red meat, fish & simple veggies. White bread needs to go, replace it with good wholemeal & grain stuff. Never drink coke and avoid all other junky sources of empty calories. Use olive oil, throw away the butter/margarine, and switch to the lowest fat milk you can find. Perhaps most important of all is that you get some exercise. Challenge yourself daily and you'll come to enjoy it. I know it sounds wanky and stupid and its certainly not the sort of thing I thought I'd ever hear myself say but you will come to enjoy it. |
