Default quitting smoking & weight loss

I'm wanting to quit smoking. I think the smoking conversation is way OT to
this group. My question is, how will it affect my weight loss, and what can
I do to avoid the negative effect and keep on losing the way I've been?

Mike,

Don't ever, ever use your kitchen-aid mixer, for whatever reason!!!!!!

Smoke free: Wednesday, September 1st, 2004, 10am.

P.S. Cold turkey is the only way to quit smoking. It didn't take pills or
patches to start smoking!!! Just add up the $dollars$. Your health and
your wallet will thank you. --A

P.P.S. Your sense of smell will return to such an extreme that the smell
you walked around in will be noxious. --A

The only way it will affect your weight loss is if you use food to
compensate for your cigarette cravings. Find another compensation and
you'll be fine.

You'll find exercise is a lot easier when your lungs clear out ...

i gained when i quit but i wasn't working out...try eating low-cal
stuff like carrots when you really want a smoke and you might be just
fine...the craving to smoke comes in waves and if you can resist you'll
make it

There's a physical reaction when you stop smoking that doesn't help. I don't
know the science of it but remember my nurse teacher explaining that for a
year your metabolism isn't the same because cigarets speed you up or
something or other....

I stopped smoking 1 weeks before I joined WW, I lost steadily and after 9
months was 70lbs down.

Might make it a little harder (even more if you compensate with food!!) but
it doesn't make it impossible in any way!

By the way I didn't even strangle anyone... my husband did hide a few times
though... ;op

Don't put off quitting for fear of gaining weight. I quit around 10 years
ago and gained 12 pounds but I haven't regretted it for one minute. With
exercise and watching the diet you should be able to quit without gaining.

You will almost certainly gain weight, but from a health perspective it
makes sense to quit anyways. A few here have done both, but I don't know of
anyone who has them simultaneously.
