Default Day 1 of the 100 Day Diet started Sunday at Midnight!

Day 1 of the 2004 100 Day Diet -- 100 days from midnight last night --
Sunday – will take one to midnight the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Start today and end the Wednesday before Thanksgiving – or tomorrow
and end on Thanksgiving.

I had about 1400 calories today and weighed 236 when I came home this
evening following a three day camping trip. (There were no bathroom
scales for me to weigh myself this morning at Sawyer's Bar in the
Sister's Wilderness area of Oregon.) On Saturday and Today, we did
about 5 or 6 miles with packs on, and on Sunday, we went about 11
miles. A lot of fun, but arduous for an old-timer like. Especially one
who weighs 230 some odd pounds.

Along the Pacific Crest Trail, though, where we were, there hiked by
groups of extraordinary people who started at the California-Mexico
border on the traditional start date of the Pacific Crest Trail hiking
season of about April 23 and who will wind up in Canada in late
September or early October. By the time they reached our position last
night, they had hiked 1,900 miles. Truly amazing folks! They generally
aimed at about 20 to 30 miles of hiking a day. They're really in a
league of their own. Several had dogs with little saddle packs on and
the pooches seemed to be having a good time.

Our little hiking group usually celebrates the end of our hikes by
going to dinner at the Gallery Restaurant in Sisters, Oregon, but this
time I declined as I started my diet today. That's the way it goes...

For the next 100 days, I will aim at 1000 or so calories a day, will
exercise daily, will avoid all bread and beer, will weigh myself
daily, etc.

And by Thanksgiving I will weigh about 40 pounds less than I do now
(unless the laws of physics are suspended in my neck of the woods –
and they aren't).

100 Days is not the longest period of time in the world, but it sure
is a length of time in which one can greatly improve one's health.
While I sure don't have any ambitions to complete the Pacific Crest
Trail, I do hope to improve my health levels, and so it's now time to
start the training!

I hope everyone succeeds in their approach to improving their health!
It's not easy – in large part because of so many distracters and
temptations – but it is a straightforward process. Fewer calories in
than one burns up and weight is lost. More calories than one burns up
and weight is gained.
