On the other hand, if it is a flop, it
would not be the first time the cola industry has launched an

unsuccessful
product to much hype and fanfare (remember New Coke?).

New Coke was not a failure. It was an absolute success in all ways.

I'd like to meet the genius who came up with the Dunkin Donut's "low carb"
bagel and croissant. On their web site, they're called "lower carb" but

in
my local store they are labeled "low carb" with no counts available.

The prize goes to a little local deli by me. Despite my trying to educate
the guy over the years, his first helpful product is his "Low Fat and Low
Carb muffins". He doesn't want to take a cance and miss anyone.

Okay, since I was the one who said it was a flop, I'll bite. Can you
explain this? The only postulate I can think of is that New Coke was a
marketing scheme by Coca-Cola to generate interest in its "Classic" product
thereby boosting sales. If that were the case, I guess I'd like to see a
rundown of the cost and sales numbers to determine whether it worked. At
any rate, I'd like to hear more about what you mean.

Another theory I've heard was that this was used as a cover when they
switched over to using HFCS instead of sugar as a sweetener. People (it is
said) had their taste buds confused by trying the new coke and so when
they went back to the coke classic they didn't realize that it tasted
different.

I don't have a rundown, but it was pretty obvious. They got huge amounts of
publicity over it, got to call their product "classic" and have kept the #1
spot in the market ever since.
