BURN FAT FAST - 1000 Cal/Hr - Snowshoing
http://www.caromont.org/12799.cfm
Brief Snip of Text Cold Weather.... BURN FAT FAST --- Go outside and play..... ----------------------------------------------------------------- Fitness Advantages "Even if you snowshoe slowly, about two miles per hour, your caloric expenditure will be about eight calories per minute, or 480 calories per hour," says Declan Connolly, PhD, director of the human performance laboratory at the University of Vermont. If you step up the pace to three miles per hour, Connolly says, you can burn up to 1,000 calories in an hour. Caloric consumption, however, is not the only benefit of snowshoeing. Connolly and his colleagues have conducted a number of studies in the past few years to test the effects of a snowshoe workout. In addition to burning a ton of calories, they found that snowshoeing leads to significant improvements in workout time to exhaustion and VO2 Max (maximum lung capacity). In fact, athletes completing a snowshoe training program showed greater improvement in VO2 Max than athletes who completed a similar running program. So what does this mean to you? Bottom line: if you strap on a pair of snowshoes and hit the trails, you are going to get a killer workout. ------------------------ Cold Weather.... BURN FAT FAST --- Go outside and play..... |

Of course, for some of us, even GETTING to snow this time of the year
means a lot of careful planning. Aramanth (in sunny south Australia, where we are expecting 38C/100F today...) |

Even in the mountains this time of year there's no snow. It's SUMMER, so all the alpine resorts are covered in greenery rather than whitery! And Priscilla is WAY too tacky for me. Now, a nice little cruise on the QE2 or something equally upmarket to one of your little northern-hemisphere places would be just the thing. Especially tonight, when my poor little footsies are hurting after providing for (and cleaning up after) a Christmas Feast for 9. Aramanth |

Here in Las Vegas, the temp is supposed to stay around 50F today, with sunny
skies and very little wind. Sounds like an almost perfect day, but I'm recuperating from a nasty bout with the flu so I'll be staying indoors anyway. Fortunately, I don't have to go back to work until Tuesday...by that time, I'm hoping to feel a lot better and able to get back on track with Atkins. Right now I'm just in a holding pattern and feeling very fortunate every day that I maintain my present weight without gaining. Patte "Aramanth Dawe" wrote in message ... I went xc skiing with my oldest son recently, he of the 4x weekly workouts at the gym. There were the panting pleas, "Hey, Dad, slow down," and the frequent "stopping to adjust my skis," and, my favorite, "When do we get to the slidey part that just goes downhill?" I've tried snowshoeing. Boy howdy, that's some hard slogging. Dan 325/192/190 Atkins since 1/1/02 (yeah, it was a New Year's Resolution) Besetting sins: good beer, German bread, and Krispy Kremes |
