Of course, but the truth is that 95% of people just install their
browsers and leave it as the default setting. For Windows
machines, the 4 or 5 browsers that I've used have all rendered
HTML pretty much the same way (besides the text browser that I
use). Unix machines pick a close match for the font. I have no
idea what Macs do.

Seconded about the unreadable font. However, I have a more

It's just a nice thing to have.

I'm just glad to have the list and have bookmarked it. It's thorough and
accurate.

Preesi just posted the link to her huge list of restaurants:

Well, you COULD click on the relevant ones! Anyway, I was
laboring under false assumptions.

the *platform* doesn't do anything. the *browser* does.

I agree. I'm happy to have it. I was looking at nutritional info
on some things right before I went LC in August, and having the
main url eliminates one step in finding such things.

Of course, but since we're talking about fonts, the fact remains
that the browser (typically) uses the text-rendering routines
provided by the operating system. The browser just says "paint
the string blahblahblah in font zxcvasdfqwer at coordinates
x,y within my window".

Of course different browsers treat it differently if the operating
system does not have the requested font, but the reality is that
whether or not the font exists (and thus will look mostly like
what the author recommended) depends on the operating system, not
the browser.

In any case, this is a bit of a silly argument.. :-)
