Hi all: Last week I gained 3 lbs. which I blamed on water retention since
it was hot here. Today I lost 4.2 so everything is back to normal. Anyway
our leader shared a message with us and thought it might help others too. I
am putting it on my fridge. It is a little long but here it is:
DON'T QUIT
When you've eaten too much and can't write it down,
And you feel like the biggest failure in town.
When you want to give up just because you've given in,
And forgot all about being healthy and thin.
So what! You went over your points a bit,
It's your next move that counts........So don't quit!
It's a moment of truth, it's an attitude change.
It's learning the skills to get back to your range,
It's telling yourself,"you've done great up till now
You can take on this challenge and beat it somehow."
It's part of your journey toward reaching your goal.
You're still gonna make it, just stay in control.
To stumble and fall is not a disgrace,
If you summon the will to get back in the race.
But often the strugglers, when losing their grip,
Just throw in the towel and continue to slip.
And learn too late when the damage is done,
That the race wasn't over and they still could have won.
Life-style change can be awkward and slow,
But facing each challenge will help you to grow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint in the cloud of doubt.
When you're pushed to the brink, just refuse to submit
If you bite it, you write it.........BUT DON'T YOU QUIT!!!!!!!!!!

I said it was long, hope it helps someone!
Betty

Thanks for the poem - I really needed to read it.

Week 2 of maintenance here, and I don't know what the heck is wrong
with me. I've seemed to have taken "maintenance" as liberty to eat
whatever I want to. Feels like I've learned absolutely nothing in
this past year. I'm sure that I will have gained more than 2 pounds
when weigh-in time comes along Friday. I only hope that I can
minimize the damage by being good these next few days.

It's my old eating habits that are cropping back up. I eat dinner, am
full and satisfied. But then I go sit on the couch and pretty soon
I'm back at the fridge looking for something to munch on. My
munchy-choices are always carbs - 'cause that's what I love the most.
I've done this in varying degrees three days this week.

I've been trying to not beat myself up to badly, and to find that
"silver lining" - i.e., what can I learn from my goof-up. I suppose
what is being reiterated to me is that I will have to watch what I eat
daily for the REST OF MY LIFE. Left to my own devices, I will
overeat.

Again, thanks for the post. I had thought that I had gotten all this
through my thick skull, but apparently I need reminders to whop me
over the head occasionally.

Hi Tracy: I have those times and I am not near maintenance. Evenings are
my bad tomes too. I have started having popcorn at night and drinking lots
with it. Then I am really stuffed. Several at our meeting have made
lifetime and they appear to have the same problems as you do. They say it
is not easy as it seems. Some have lost additional weight so they have a
cushion in case they gain a pound or two. Hang in there. You lost the
weight and don't want to gain it back.

You may have to go back through your WW books and figure out what is
triggering your carb cravings. I have a problem with craving salt and of
course they tend to be carb filled. The only way that I deal with this is to
make sure that I have the low point versions on hand to minimize the damage.
And don't forget to keep journaling. Now that you are no longer having to
lose weight you may want to journal even more carefully. Even writing down
when and where and why you were eating would give you a handle on your
moods. You certianly don't want the old habits to creep back. You've come so
far so don't slip.
