What about fibre in low carb diets? Psyllium husk?
I am concerned about lack of fibre in low carb diet. I understand
that recommended daily input of fibre is 12g (some say 18g) of fibre a day. Main sources of fibre I believe are cereals, bread, fruit and some from vegetables. I reckon my 30g carb regime is giving me under 5g fibre per day, virtually all from the vegetables. The short term problem of lack of fibre (constipation) can be dealt with; I find linseeds are good. But long term tenendencies of bowel cancers, blood pressure etc., are more serious. I have started taking Psyllium Husk powder (4.4g fibre and 0.4g carbs per 6g teaspoonful), although this can be quite expensive. Any comments? Regards, DavidF |

What a super recipe, Kitty!
DustyB "CAStinneford" wrote in message ... wrote: I am concerned about lack of fibre in low carb diet. I understand .... I have 1/3 cup of flaxseed meal combined with 1/3 cup of ground almonds every morning for breakfast. I add cinnamon, vanilla extract, 3/4 cup of very hot but not boiling water, then 1/4 cup raspberries and some half and half. This gives me a great deal of fiber and a very good breakfast. Kitty. |

But psyllium husks themselves are even cheaper, and have none of the
additives that are in Metamucil. I think they are definitely a better choice than Metamucil. I try to get fiber in my diet, but also take psyllium husks on occasion. Debbie "Dawn Taylor" wrote in message Generic versions of Metamucil are available here in the U.S. and they're not expensive -- perhaps you could look for that? It's made from psyllium as well. |

Well, the original poster said that he thought psyllium husks were pricey, so I figured maybe this would cost less. Or sumthin'. I've never used plain ol' psyllium myself. Dawn |
