Body for Life & Myoplex Shakes
Hi all, haven't checked in for an eon, but doing great - I had lost 42
pounds!! But then hubby and I went on a cruise, and of course I ate too much! I haven't weighed myself yet but I suspect I've gained in the neighborhood of 12 pounds - ugh! If anyone who reads this is considering a diet plan, I have to super-duper recommend Body for Life, I've been on it now for 9 or 10 months. Well, I was on it 100% for 6 or 7 months, then I started to wear down on it a little but still continued to lose. I've never been unhappy on this diet. And I haven't even started the exercise portion of the program yet. Anyhow, the real reason I'm posting is to find out from any fellow BFL'ers out there what kind of Myoplex shakes are the best, and what is the best way to prepare them. I am a teacher now so I'm always on the run, and after doing this diet for so long I'm ready for something I can just have real quick when I'm hungry, especially in the morning when I don't have time to cook! Thanks, Dora |

I buy Myoplex Lite shakes online at www.vitaglo.com. I like Cappacino Ice and Chocolate Cream and 3 out of the 4 flavors in each of the two combo packs. The chocolate combo pack has a dark chocolate that I just don't like (which is really not typical of me) and the tropical fruit pack has an orange flavor that I just don't like (but my orange-soda-swilling-son does.) There's no arguing with taste, but I really do like the mint-chip, chocolate-peanut-butter and chocolate-mocha in the chocolate lover's pack so I keep buying it and have a nice collection of dark chocolate packs I should probably go sell on ebay. :-) I never tried vanilla but a lot of the recipes start with vanilla packets. Are you ready to start the exercise portion now that you've got an extra 12 pounds to inspire you? I'd be happy to answer questions. I've been doing it for over a year now (and am in C4W8) Wendy |

Body for Life & Myoplex Shakes
Hi Wendy, thanks so much for the tips, glad to hear that some are good, I'm
going to order some asap. I've never tasted them before...do you mix them with anything but water? Do you have any advice to make them taste even better? What is C4W8? Sadly, I still don't feel that inspired to start exercising. I do a little bit here and there, but these days I'm working 12-14 hours per day and I'm exhausted! At least the working keeps me somewhat under control, I'm burning calories when I'm not even realizing it! I should start though...just don't have that over ambition yet, you know? Ugh. But my jiggly butt is begging me to start something!!! What is the consistency of the shakes like? I'm dreading some lumpy watery awful mess... I have a Shaklee Protein shake that I like pretty much, but the only way I can drink it is if I mix it with 2% milk, which of course, is not really legal on BFL. Any other meal ideas or tips you have would be great, I feel like I'm kind of in a standstill right now because there's nothing out of all my BFL meals or snacks that I've been eating over the past 9 months that I still want anymore! Nothing sounds good to me. So tempt my tummy, lol. It's been real hard (ok so not even possible yet) to get out of cruise-eating mode. But I have to! Any advice would be great, thanks!! Sorry if this is a duplicate reply, but it didn't look like it went through

Vitaglo is cheaper than EAS even even when eas is having a sale and you are
using a discount. However, I have had several boxes of vanilla and chocolate myoplex that tasted funny. I called eas with the lot numbers and they said everything looked normal to them. One time, eas replaced it without charge, another time eas said they would not do it, I would have to deal with the vendor directly. It depends on who you talk to there. If Myoplex is ordered from eas directly and there is a problem with it then eas will replace it without charge. I wonder since bill phillips has left the company, if they have let their quality drop off. I am inclined to buy something like met-rx now which is sold in my grocery store. --tc "Wendy" wrote in message ... do you mix them with anything but water? Do you have any advice to make them taste even better? I mix mine in Tupperware shaker bottles - the kind with the little propeller blade. I've got two or three of those. I notice you can buy them now at Target. They work great for measuring, mixing and drinking, but they aren't terribly good at keeping the lid from popping off if you put them in a briefcase - so be warned on that point. I usually put 8 ounces or so of skim milk, then about 2 ounces of water and some ice cubes. I swear I never measure, just splash, splash, yup about 10 ounces. Then I put the mix in and shake. I often let it sit for 15 minutes or so before I drink it - the ice cubes melt and the shake thickens for some reason. I encourage you to go to skim milk. It takes about a week of people complaining and making faces before they get used to it, but then they really DO get used to it and you can get the benefits of milk (calcium, protein) without the saturated fats for the rest of your life. (Please note that an awful lot of people are lactose intolerant so be sure to get Lactaid if you're one of them.) What is C4W8? Challenge 4, Week 8, Day 4. On the BFL guestbook people use shorthand to describe where they a I'm at C4W8D4. It helps people to get a handle on what level of experience you have or what your typical issues will be. Someone on C1W1D4 is too sore to type, for example! Sadly, I still don't feel that inspired to start exercising. I do a little bit here and there, but these days I'm working 12-14 hours per day and I'm exhausted! At least the working keeps me somewhat under control, I'm burning calories when I'm not even realizing it! The kind of calories you burn from being active might be useful for weight management, but they aren't really useful for heart health. When all is said and done the things I fear most are car accidents and heart disease. Heart disease is the overwhelming first place winner of ways for people in my family to die and I doubt I'm the only one it's coming after. (I think it is the #1 killer in our country.) I should start though...just don't have that over ambition yet, you know? Ugh. But my jiggly butt is begging me to start something!!! And I'd say your jiggly heart is begging you, too. So start the cardio thing: it's only 20 minutes every other day. I just got back from doing mine after dropping my kids off at school, but on days when I've got to get an early start I do it before showering in the morning: I get up, drink a bunch of water, do 20 minutes on the NordicTrack, then prepare my morning oatmeal while I go shower and dress. The oatmeal is waiting for me when I come back down. I get to feel self-righteous all day long for having done my exercise first thing! To really kick up the fat burning you've got to add the weight routine, but maybe you're just ready to do one thing at a time. If I were you'd I would concentrate on carving out 20 minutes three times a week. I am absolutely positive you can do this if you decide to do it. (By the way, it will give you more energy for the stuff you have to do the rest of the day, too.) What is the consistency of the shakes like? I'm dreading some lumpy watery awful mess... Sometimes I have lumps. That's what the ice cubes and propeller blades are for. I just shake it a few more times if I get some. I wouldn't say it's a lumpy watery mess, though! I know a lot of people make them in the blender but I prefer the portability of my shaker bottles. I have a Shaklee Protein shake that I like pretty much, but the only way I can drink it is if I mix it with 2% milk, which of course, is not really legal on BFL. I used to like the Shaklee Protein mix but they changed it to have more carbs. I used to mix it with my oatmeal. Any other meal ideas or tips you have would be great, I feel like I'm kind of in a standstill right now because there's nothing out of all my BFL meals or snacks that I've been eating over the past 9 months that I still want anymore! Nothing sounds good to me. So tempt my tummy, lol. In the fall I find I need to add warm steamed vegetables to my diet. I still have the big salad with chicken or salmon or tuna chunks on it, but now I add some leftover steamed broccoli or brussel sprouts or cauliflower to it. I make big batches of steamed veggies for dinner and will use them for two or three days. I tend to cook my meat on the George Foreman grill with spice rubs on it - you could change the spice rub. I usually use "Season All" but some of the Emeril line of flavored rubs are good, too. Are you eating brown *basmati* rice? It's nutty and good. It's been real hard (ok so not even possible yet) to get out of cruise-eating mode. But I have to! I really mourned losing a chef and water and clean-up staff, personally! I didn't have so much trouble changing out of feast-food mode, though. One thing BFL does well is teach you to STOP feasting the day after your refeed day is over. I am good at going back to being a restrained eater. My advice is to practice it, you'll get better at it. Didn't you work out on the ship? I love working out on the ship. The views from the treadmill are the best in the world. One more thing, have you ever tried the Ready-to-Drink formulas? Are they good? Thanks! No, I've never tried those. I've tried the EAS Carb-Control bars and I find them difficult to eat: they are dry and nearly burn my mouth from the protein - we call them "sawdust bars" but they store well and make a good protein source to balance out an apple. You must drink lots of water with them! I also like the Balance Gold bars (particularly the rasberry fudge) but I wonder if those aren't really just candybars in disguise. Same goes for the Detour Bars - I suspect anything that good MUST be bad for me! (I have puritan ancesters, I admit it.) When I have to pack a lunch I tend to pack a chef salad (I dress it with a few shakes of Eden Toasted Sesame Oil) or a package of skim-milk cottage cheese and some yogurt to mix together. I'll throw in an apple or an orange for some fiber and nutrients. I keep cans of chunk tuna around to put on anything in a pinch. We also tend to have Thomas' Whole Wheat bagels in the house - the kids like them, and I'll use half of one (they are HUGE) for an open-faced tuna sandwich or put fat-free cream cheese and lox on one for a meal. Anyway, hope some of these ideas help. You really really need to start doing a cardio routine. Go outside run/walking, get a workout video from www.collagevideo.com (I like Crunch: Boot Camp Training for a great 30 minute routine to do everything.) There isn't any reason why you can't do this for yourself, so get going! Wendy |
