Nah, not at all. I just feel that it should be a l-o-n-g way from asking a
polite and simple question to getting buttock-brained, blue-sky theorising
about the nature and quality of A.N. Other's relationship. Sadly, people
seem determined immediately to proffer such gratuitous speculations.
Usenet's a bit like the exchange, attributed to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Alan
Jay Lerner:

ALW: Why do people take an instant dislike to me?
AJL: Because it saves time.

I guess I took it negatively because of the subject line. Most people think of
'playing games' in a relationship with negativity. So that gives the post a
negative slant, weather it was intended or not.
FWIW, I played a similar 'game' many years ago. I was transferred out of state
for 6 months, I didn't tell anyone I was losing weight, when I got back I was
50 lbs lighter and pretty psyched.
I'm sure I did it for the attention. But again, that was many years ago and I
doubt very much that I would do it again.

Oh dear. How sad that the mere mention of games should risk being viewed
negatively. Games are wonderful things.

Thanks for putting me straight, however.

And he used the term "playing games," which seems like an automatic red flag
for the ladies I can see that logic!

Oh yeah.

I gotta say ... there were a LOT of red flags in the post, actually.

Some disfunctional relationships continue for a lifetime.
