Russell Stover Low Carb candies!

I've tried those and liked them too. My biggest downfall... sweets of any type are my undoing. Can't stop myself at just one. Great idea to have handy at Xmas though I think. Just think of the possible side effects. Sounds like a good deterrent to eating too many of them. -- Jean B. |

Hmm, true candy taste and feel, sounds deliciously dangerous Jeano Yes, well, I am keeping in mind that they have calories, and overconsumption could be disastrous. Anyway, even though they are good, I like very dark chocolate. I think if I really want chocolate, I will eat a very low carb (for such) good chocolate. -- Jean B. |

If ToolPackinMama had a hammer, they might
have built a post that went like this: WOW! "Pecan delights" (2 pieces): 130 calories, total carbs, 16 grams. NET EFFECTIVE CARBS = 2.4 G. The taste and mouth-feel are perfect. It's a true candy. They're definitely awesome, and they don't give me gastrointestinal problems like some other candies with sorbitol or malitol do, but boy do they stall me out like nobody's business. I had to stop eating them because I was starting to gain some weight back :/ --Pook! ^_^ |

I find that lactitol is a little better for me than maltitol. -- Bob M in CT Remove 'x.' to reply |

Bottom line: if your weight loss stops after you add these to your diet, or if you start finding yourself hunger or getting back to binging behavior, these candies would be the first item to finger as the culprit. .....or not! I'd say it depends on the person. I started my Aktins diet eating at least 2 Carbolite chocolate bars and 1/2 Carb Safe white chocolate bar (about 150g total) per day. It was the only thing that kept me from mugging school kids on their way to school for their peanubutter/jelly sandwiches. I'm down to 1/2 bar per day, now, but I've been losing weight all along. That maltitol kept me regular, too. Review: Carbolite chocolate bars (crunchy, almond, peanutbutter, dark chocolate) are very tasty. They have a buttery, slightly greasy, mouth feel, but the flavor is very good. $1.87 per 50g bar at Trader Joe's. My favorite for regular chocolate. Carb Safe white chocolate bars. Very good white chocolate. Good mouth feel and excellent flavor. Their milk chocolate bar is ok tasting but has a slightly granular mouthfeel. $1.50 per 100g bar at TJ's. I could eat two Carbolite bars and suffer no intestinal distress, but half a Carb Safe bar would give me ...well, let's just say a lot of activity! Never had the green apple shouts from either. Both had about 20-22g of carbs, but cuz it was maltitol, only about 2 real grams. nb |

They took their sugar-free line, wrapped it in a new red package labelled low carb, and doubled the price. Look for the green bags, and save some bucks. I especially like the peppermint patties. As to the Pecan Delights, I think the Nestle's Sugarfree Turtles are much better. Sugarfree candies are loaded with sugar alcohols, which some people process more as carbs, according to blood levels taken by diabetics in the group. A lot of people are stalled by them. And eating too many acts as a laxative. Sugarfree candy is still a junk food, and should be treated as such. -- jamie ) "There's a seeker born every minute." |

For me, whether sugar-free, low-carb, or wonderful chocolate and other goodies, they all have to be limited. Just as I am pleased that my daughter no longer thinks she needs dessert, I also think it is good for me not to be in that mindframe. -- Jean B. |
