Blood Pressure Change
I've had high blood pressure for more than 20 years. Never better than
180/90 on meds. Four days after starting induction it went to 120/70. I am convinced that the high BP has a lot to do with sugar/carb/starch intake. Am going to the Dr on Monday morning and am looking forward to starting the process of getting off the meds. Any success stories? My wife and I have been on a month and have lost about 20 lbs each. Can't wait for the blood tests. Larry and Barbara Williams |

I've heard that it can take 3-6 month for the full effect of low carbing on blood pressure, but I too went down, from 160/90 to 118/70, after only one month of low-carbing. I can't wait for my next visit to see how much better I'm doing. I, too, would like to cut the meds. BTW, if you should start feeling light-headed, for instance when you stand up too fast, that's probably your bp falling below about 100/70. It's not dangerous, you just sit back down again. If you actually lose consciousness, though, go straight to the doc. And congratulations on the new numbers! This has been happening to me intermittently for a while now, since I started low-carb in April. I can't remember what my BP was the last time I got it checked, my doctor told me the numbers and I said "Is that bad?" and she said I was "Smack dab in the middle of normal." So if low-carb drops blood pressure, and mine wasn't high to start with maybe mine is too low now? Yearly check-up is in 2 weeks, I'll be sure to remember the numbers this time. It's not dangerous, you just sit back down again. If you actually lose consciousness, though, go straight to the doc. And congratulations on the new numbers! Only problem is at the docs office it shoots up. However I've been able to halve my meds so that's good. |

Blood Pressure Change
glad you brought this up Larry. I got light headed on the golf course
this morning and wondered why, now I know. I've always had lower pressure so I may need to be careful. Enjoy the sucess. Have a great day. If you actually lose consciousness, though, go straight to the doc. I've had low blood pressure (100/50 and that's when I pump it up) all my adult life. Another way to deal with the position changes is to pump up the blood pressure before you get up. Tighten your muscles, particularly the abdominal and gluteal (butt) musles and hold your breath, then stand up. Voila! No head spin, no dizziness. If you have chronic low blood pressure, it gets to be habit. I don't think I know how to stand up (or sit up from a prone position) without doing this anymore. Aw, but the head rush is fun. :-) Chakolate -- On sadness: The cure for this ill is not to sit still, Or to frowst with a book by the fire, But to take a large hoe and a shovel also, And to dig till you gently perspire. --Rudyard Kipling |
