IF you end up with a dextrose solution rather than a saline solution (and you can
probably ASK for saline and specifically decline dextrose), and IF the temporary
extra carbs in it cause you to gain any weight, that weight would only be WATER
that is retained in the liver along with the new glycogen stores. As long as you
stay low-carb otherwise, the water would be shed as that glycogen store is used
up again within the next couple of days. In any case, it would not be FAT that
would be gained, and there is a HUGE (so to speak) difference.

Is someone ELSE weighing you every day (perhaps a snide 7th grader) who is going
to ridicule you if the scale moves up a lb or 3? Are you going to be treated
differently if your liver weighs 3 lbs more than it did yesterday? Who's going
to know? Focusing on the number on the scale to the degree that you freak out
when you gain what you KNOW to be temporary water and not FAT is downright
illogical. Do you freak out whenever you need to take a big dump or after eating
a low-carb, but heavy meal? Yeah, we all look in dismay and momentary alarm at a
sudden jump upwards on the scale (sheesh, try being a WOMAN for a month and
seeing what happens on the scale just before your period arrives), but freaking
out does no good whatsoever, and it's much easier to deal with mentally if you
are prepared for it and know the situation to be temporary.
