Default Popcorn

My DH and I have recently gotten hooked on good old fashioned oil popped
popcorn with real butter. It started out with very controlled portions but
slowly started creaping up. It didn't seem to have an effect on me in the
lower doses, but seems to have done some permanent damage in larger
portions.

I have been looking in atkins for anything about popcorn during
maintenance.... is it really that evil? Is it just wishful thinking that all
of the fiber makes it a little less evil?! I realize that for most its a
YMMV kind of thing, so does anyone else endulge in a bowl of popcorn every
now and then?

1 cup of Popcorn, popped in oil (doesn't include the butter):

Water g 0.308
Energy kcal 55.000
Energy kj 230.120
Protein g 0.990
Total lipid (fat) g 3.091
Ash g 0.319
Carbohydrate, by difference g 6.292
Fiber, total dietary g 1.100
Sugars, total g 0.059

So... 6.3g carbs, minus 1.1g fiber, equals 5.2g carbs per cup. This is well
within bounds for maintenance, and even OWL, IMHO, as long as you count the
carbs and stay within your limits. The trouble with popcorn is you usually
make a big bowl of it, and then realize your mistake when you're running
your fingers through the salt and butter in the bottom of the bowl. I eat
popcorn occasionally, and other than the overindulgence factor, have not
suffered ill effects from it. Proceed with caution.

I occasionally have a small popcorn and share it with S3 at the movies. I
bring an Atkins Endulge Chocolate bar with me too and some beef jerky.

I've been eating popcorn fairly regularly since getting close to goal. I

believe it has slowed me down, but not stopped me. The problem is not a
small amount of popcorn, but the actual amount that you truly eat. The only
way that I have found around this is to take out what I figure I can afford
that night and put the rest down the garbarater "before" I even start
eating. At the movies, I eat about 1/4 to 1/3 and then get my obliging
husband to take the container out of the theatre and trash it.
YMMV - but control seems to be a better solution than abstinence for me.
