Default Weight Loss & "Low Carb" Processed Foods - Data Please!

Rather than debate this abstractly, let's collect some data.

For the questions that follow "low carb processed food" is defined as
commercial processed foods with "low carb" labeling, including low carb
bars, candies, cereals, shakes, pasta, tortillas, muffins, etc.

1. How long have you been on a low carb diet?

2. At the start of the month, what did you weigh?

3. During the past month, how much low carb processed food did you typically
eat per day? How much low carb processed food did you eat per week? Answer
in "servings". One bar is a serving. So is 1/2 cup of low carb ice cream.

4.. During this past month, what was your typical daily TOTAL of carbs,
including the "net carbs" on the label?

5. What would that daily total have been if you had counted all the label
carbs (including sugar alcohols but not including fiber).

6. Over the past month, how much weight did you lose?

Thanks for participating!

Roger,

Rather than debate whether low carb processed foods help or hinder a low
carb diet, let's get some data on how consuming them is impacting people's
weight loss.

Given the explosion of low carb products in the marketplace, this kind of
exploration is long overdue!

For the questions that follow "low carb processed food" is defined as

bars, candies, cereals, shakes, pasta, tortillas, muffins, etc.

1. How long have you been on a low carb diet?

18 months

2. At the start of the month, what did you weigh?

Not sure, I am in maintenance, not weight-loss mode, but I am around 128-132
depending on hormones, hydration, etc.

3. During the past month, how much low carb processed food did you typically
eat per day? How much low carb processed food did you eat per week? Answer

None. I try not to eat processed food and when I eat sweets, I just eat things
without much sugar such as choc/mocha/cheesecake made w/no crust & 70% choc and
sweetened with a *little* honey.

in "servings". One bar is a serving. So is 1/2 cup of low carb ice cream.

4.. During this past month, what was your typical daily TOTAL of carbs,
including the "net carbs" on the label?

Total average carbs: 40-50 grams a day, before subtracting fiber

5. What would that daily total have been if you had counted all the label
carbs (including sugar alcohols but not including fiber).

Same

6. Over the past month, how much weight did you lose?

None, but I am not trying to lose weight.

Thanks for participating!

134

Did not eat this every day.

How much low carb processed food did you eat per week? Answer
in "servings". One bar is a serving. So is 1/2 cup of low carb ice cream.

Maybe 1-3 servings.

4.. During this past month, what was your typical daily TOTAL of carbs,
including the "net carbs" on the label?

Hmmm. Less than 45, assuming I had three such treats per week,
and including the fact that I had a piece of pie and 3 comice
pears.

5. What would that daily total have been if you had counted all the label
carbs (including sugar alcohols but not including fiber).

a few grams less

6. Over the past month, how much weight did you lose?

four pounds

1. How long have you been on a low carb diet?

Six months, give or take a few days.

2. At the start of the month, what did you weigh?

I was 247lbs on 23 November.

3. During the past month, how much low carb processed food did you

typically
eat per day? How much low carb processed food did you eat per week?

Answer
in "servings". One bar is a serving. So is 1/2 cup of low carb ice

cream.

Looking at fitday.com, about one or two a week or thereabouts. That
comes down to about 0.28 per day, assuming it was two per week.

4.. During this past month, what was your typical daily TOTAL of

carbs,
including the "net carbs" on the label?

For the purposes of this survey the month I'm counting is from 23
December backwards. This means it doesn't include Christmas Eve,
Christmas Day or Boxing Day on which my food consumption wasn't typical.

As best I can approximate, it would have been around 34-36.

5. What would that daily total have been if you had counted all the

label
carbs (including sugar alcohols but not including fiber).

Approximately 38. It was 37.79, but I'm rounding up.

6. Over the past month, how much weight did you lose?

From 23 November to 23 December, 7lbs.

I haven't weighed myself for a four months thanks to a broken leg stopping
me being able to balance on our electronic scale. I'm sort of in early
self imposed maintenance as I've been advised that ketosis might not be a
good idea while trying to heal a bone. From my belt buckle holes, I've
stayed pretty much the same size (235, down from 265+), maybe lost a few
pounds.

3. During the past month, how much low carb processed food did you
typically
eat per day? How much low carb processed food did you eat per week?

I eat no low carb processed food at all. I'd rather eat a very occasional
high carb treat than find an LC equivalent and eat it all the time.

4.. During this past month, what was your typical daily TOTAL of carbs,
including the "net carbs" on the label?

I have no idea, I never really counted. My 'plan' is basically no bread,
spuds, rice, pasta or fruit. For the last few months I've been eating
yogurt and a crust of bread per day. Just being careful to keep carbs to
below the level where I get cravings really.

5. What would that daily total have been if you had counted all the
label
carbs (including sugar alcohols but not including fiber).

6. Over the past month, how much weight did you lose?

I wasn't really able to as I totally don't fit in with this carb-counting
stuff, specially not at the moment.

I eat LC candy every day (Russell Stover SF)...may equal 1-2 servings all
together. I eat a LC bar or drink maybe once or twice a week when I'm away
from home. LC ice cream once a week. LC bread once a week.

4.. During this past month, what was your typical daily TOTAL of carbs,

I'm not sure, but probably pretty low....I'd say around 30
