Atkins died obese and with heart disease
You think that people who are obese are funny? I think that it's ironic
-- but amusing? It sounds like a lot of it was water weight but I'm guessing all 75 pounds above the so-called normal range was not water. Why do they call it the range "normal" if over half of the population is above that range? On 2/10/2004 9:59 AM, Ignoramus15221 wrote: for your information, very amusing i In article , Dan J. Atkins died last April at age 72 after being injured in a fall on an icy street. Before his death, he had suffered a heart attack, congestive heart failure and hypertension, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a report by the city medical examiner. At 258 pounds, the 6-foot-tall Atkins would have qualified as obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's body-mass index calculator. Diet is one potential factor in heart disease, but infections also can contribute to it. Stuart Trager, chairman of the Atkins Physicians Council in New York, told the Journal that Atkins' heart disease stemmed from cardiomyopathy, a condition thought to result from a viral infection. Atkins' weight was due to bloating associated with his condition, and he had been much slimmer during most of his life, Trager said. Atkins widow outraged The medical examiner's report was given to the Journal by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a group that advocates vegetarianism. The medical examiner's office told the Journal that the report had been sent to the group in error. There was no immediate response Tuesday to a call seeking additional comment from the medical examiner's office. The diet guru's widow, Veronica Atkins, was outraged that the report had been made public. "I have been assured by my husband's physicians that my husband's health problems late in life were completely unrelated to his diet or any diet," she told the Journal. Last month, Veronica Atkins demanded an apology from Mayor Michael Bloomberg after Bloomberg called her late husband "fat." In April 2002, Atkins issued a statement saying he was recovering from cardiac arrest related to a heart infection he had suffered from "for a few years." He said it was "in no way related to diet." -- jmk in NC |

You think that people who are obese are funny? It was released by that lunatic PETA sponsored group PCRM. With the good doctor dead, they are dancing on his grave. It's dispicable. Atkins died last April at age 72 after being injured in a fall on an icy street. Right. A smashed head is a result of diet? Sure thing. Stuart Trager, chairman of the Atkins Physicians Council in New York, told the Journal that Atkins' heart disease stemmed from cardiomyopathy, a condition thought to result from a viral infection. He took a trip up the Amazon and caught a virus. That's a result of diet? Sure thing. Atkins' weight was due to bloating associated with his condition, and he had been much slimmer during most of his life, Trager said. Bingo. Atkins widow outraged She should be. I am not sure what you mean exactly, but I will repeat what I just wrote in alt.support.diet.low-carb: The fact that no one disputes is that Atkins died being very overweight and having a heart disease. A typical cause of it is, well, obesity, adiposity, high cholesterol, etc. His family, having much money at stake, is now claiming that his "bloating" and hypertension and heart problems were caused by some unusual problem such as some virus. That same family is engaging in fraudulent behavior in other areas, such as selling fake zero carb junk food bars. The burden of proof is really on them if they want me to believe an unusual cause over a more typical cause. I am sure that if they are telling the truth, they would have no problems finding authentic medical documents with his contemporary diagnoses, as well as publishing the autopsy results. Why do they call it the range "normal" if over half of the population is above that range? I heard that range referred to as "healthy". i |

No, it's not. Ignorant, is his haste to put down something he doesn't like
(or that doesn't agree with him) is now rooting for PETA! I always knew he was a nutjob.
