The idea that a high carb diet is responsible for obesity and illness (a
concept supported by low carb plans) is completely contradicted by many
population-based studies. For instance, in Japan, carbohydrates compose
the overwhelming majority of daily caloric intake. High carb foods like
grains, rice, and vegetables are daily staples of Japanese life, and
intake of high protein, high fat animal products is minimal. In contrast
to the reported "evils" of carbohydrates touted by low carb plans, Japan
has one of the lowest rates of obesity, heart disease, cancer and
diabetes in the world. Enough said.

Japan also has an exceptionally high number of smokers. Should we infer from
that that we should all take up smoking to improve our health?

I'll admit I haven’t read the low carb books.

Okay. You're posting from MIT and you haven't bothered to read
any of the textbooks on a subject, but you've come in arguing.
Are or on the gardening staff or are you just having fun
trolling for a couple of days?

Grow up by reading at least one of the textbooks, then come on
back. You haven't learned any of the biological processes
involved and you're trying to work from what's obvious. Guess
what, the authors of the books worked years or decades figuring
out what actually does work as opposed to the obvious that
fails.

At least trolls are low carbs.

The MIT word for study is tool. Get one of the textbooks. You
have some tooling to do.
