There are a few dozen salad vegetables on the Induction list, and
another couple dozen cooked vegetables. Diet soda is also on the
Induction list, with the caveat of disallowing aspartame in the
last revision, but allowed in all the previous versions.

Call a doctor. What these "supporters" have forgotten to mention is
that 3 days of diarea is too long and you need to stop this fluid loss
PROFESSIONALLY!

Low carb high protein diets deliver rapid temporary weight loss by
starvation and dehydration. They deplete the body of its normal energy
source (carbohydrates) and force kidneys to flush the systems, getting
rid of the excess waste products of protein and fat (ketones). This
action causes the quick weight drop but also flushes water, muscle mass
and important nutrients as it attempts to rid the body of fat. It’s
obviously an unhealthy state to put the body in and can't be maintained
long term.

Steven, you wrote that you just started last Monday. Today is Sunday.

And

yet you are now writing that you are eating "all my veggies, lettuce and
peppers, etc." and drinking soda pop. This is NOT the Atkins Diet. If

you

didn't read the book, you need to go back and re-read it. The first two
weeks of the diet are called "Induction" and what you are doing is...not
following the diet.

Huh? Lettuce and other veggies are definitely included in induction
from everything I've seen here. Soda pop, ok, you're right there, I
gather, but you're not just allowed to eat vegies but you're required to
on induction.

1. show me a cite that proves that this diet delivers weight loss by
starvation. You can't because it isn't true!

2.prove that muscle mass can be flushed out of the body.

3. You obviously know nothing about this diet because the low carb part only
lasts 2 weeks--and nobody in his right mind would call that "long term".

4. You can't spell worth a darn. Go back to your books and learn something.

How else would you explain the body being in Ketosis? Does the body do
this when it's fed normally? The point of the Induction Phase is limit
carbs to get the body into Ketosis, right? Type “ketosis” into a google
search, you’ll find your starvation proof. Ketosis is a body’s reaction
to starvation. Fueling itself with ketones because it’s in trouble.

2.prove that muscle mass can be flushed out of the body.

My bad, “flush” was the wrong term as I tried to condense the readings
from many fitness articles. I could reword it, but instead let me offer
a web link since that’s what you preferred in your point above. It’s
just one of many that will suggest Low Carb Diets and Exercise will not
yield the body shape most are looking to achieve. If that’s not enough,
again type “muscle loss low carb” into google and read more about how
difficult it is to support muscle without high emphasis on balanced
nutrition.

Ø
That depends on where you define Low Carb. Under 25g? Under 50g?
Under 100g?

I don’t know everything about this diet, but I know enough about low
carb diets in general to know they won’t yield the long-term results
people are after. Here are a few things we all used to know before this
craze started:

Most low carb foods are high in calories.
It’s impossible to lose weight while ingesting more calories than are
burned.
Ingesting fat means fat needs to be burned either by exercise or ketosis.
High fat (saturated) foods raise your LDL cholesterol, clog your
arteries and increase your risk of heart disease.
Low carb diets have a high failure rate (33% within one year, 95% within
5 years).
I know that I have nothing monetarily to gain by suggesting that people
read about the studies on low carb diets that existed before Atkins and
South Beach came along with short (6 month) studies.

Personally I concentrate on body composition and less on the scale. I
count calories to make sure I’m inside my RMR (resting metabolic rate)
then adjust the quality of those calories to make sure they’re generally
the highest quality I can give my body. High in vegetable protein but
low in animal proteins. High in complex carbs but low in simple carbs.
High in fats like polyunsaturated and monounsaturated but low in
saturated and trans fats. This is how I’ve maintained my fit body for
over 10years. Before that I was 30 pounds heavier and not nearly as strong.

Ø 4. You can't spell worth a darn. Go back to your books and learn
something.

Perhaps you’re right and he shouldn’t see a doctor because I can’t spell
diarrhea correctly.
