Good video. I don't really buy into this detoxification idea, but
eating fewer calories if you are overweight and eating lots of fresh
fruit and veggies raw works very well and it is quite easy. When you
go out to a restaurant, just stop with the salad bar, but visit it
time and time again. I essentially eat the equivalent of about 20
standard-sized side salads a day in raw foods, but I also eat oats,
whole-wheat bread and other cooked, but healthy foods. Just losing 20
pounds or whatever she did would of course give you more energy. That
sleepy feeling people get after a huge meal is due in large part to
decreased blood to the brain as the blood is diverted to the
intestines and liver's venous portal system to process the food. This
occurs much less when you eat less. Also, if you eat less, but
continue to drink anything caffeinated, it concentrates the effects of
caffeine giving you additional energy even before you lose weight.

Today was a typical day and I had a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, my
huge raw salad (tomatoes, lettuce, brocolli, cucumbers, celery, onions
only) with no dressing. If you saw it, it might scare you because it
looks like food for 6. Actually, I get all that salad in 3 trips to
the salad bar using a standard-sized dinner plate, but piling it
pretty high. Then I went home and had a triple serving portion of
whole puffed (whole wheat) with fat-free milk, and my famous 12-egg
white sugar free meringues I keep touting. For a snack in the late
afternoon, I had a double bowl of oatmeal, and for dinner I had 6
slices of whole wheat bread and another double portion of oatmeal,
with some of my other-touted dessert recommendation of sugar-free, fat-
free pudding made from 8th Continent light soy milk, which of course
gives it just a little fat. Total calories 2025...exactly, with
exactly 10% of cal coming from fat, no cholesterol, 70g. protein, 150%
of daily fiber recommendation. I also work out in the morning for an
hour and a half lifting medium weights for upper body, 70 sit-ups, 30
chin ups, and 3.25 miles at 4.4 mph fast walk on the treadmill. This
is essentially my 6 days a week routine...but I think of it more as a
job, since I'm retired and have time on my hands. Never could have
done it when I was working though...or it would have been much less
routine at any rate. dkw

Why Do People Diet?
People diet for many reasons. Some are at an unhealthy weight and need
to pay closer attention to their eating and exercise habits. Some play
sports and want to be in top physical condition. Others may think they
would look and feel better if they lost a few pounds.

Seems like an awful lot of work to eat everything you are eating.

Not much. The only thing I "make" is meringues. I separate 12 egg
whites, feed a couple to my dog and pitch the rest. I beat them on
high with a smidge of cream of tartar, and add splenda 25 packets,
plus a few drops of vanilla at the end. Place on parchment on a cookie
sheet and bake for 15 min. at 300 F. Then turn off heat for another 10
min. remove by sliding a knife underneath each, add a little sugar
free syrup as I eat them (300 cal total and 0 fat with 35 gm. complete
protein. It is a LOT of meringue though and afterwards I am stuffed.
They are not typical meringues like the dense, crisp or chewy ones
made with sugar because there is almost no bulk. They look and taste
more like the meringue on top of lemon meringue pie but are stiff
enough to hold. Well, you do need to wash your fingers when you're
done. All my grains are cooked in the microwave or eaten and I eat all
my salads out. Oh ya, the pudding is the sugar-free Jello. I love
butterscotch and vanilla best. I don't exactly follow the recipe.
Here's what I do. I use 1 cup cold milk, but I add one and a half cups
of water to this. Because it is watered down, I have dissolved one pkt
of Knox Gelatin in the water. I also add 6 Splenda or Equal, and chill
at least 3 hours. What this gives me is two huge servings of pudding
at 100 cal per serving. I also make the sugar-free white chocolate
pudding using 8th Continent chocolate soy (light) and do it exactly
the same way except use about 1/8 less than 1 cup of the soy. It is
really great because the chocolate soy is very chocolatey.

I suppose for some this would be a lot of work, but for cooks, it
would seem very easy...and perhaps a little disgusting to *******ize
the meringues and pudding the way I do. All I can say is that it
tastes really great, has almost 0 fat and is high protein and filling
and healthy as far as I know....well, perhaps all that Splenda isn't
so great, but so far no side effects I can identify.

The name of the game for me is simple...to try and get a low-fat,
moderate protein, low-cal diet and eat as much food as I can that is
both nutritious and tastes good. That has been my personal formula for
successful weight loss and maintenance. My wt. is 136 lbs. I am 5'8
exactly in my bare feet. My heart. rate is 48 and my BP is 103/55. The
only med I take is a low-dose aspirin, since I'm almost 62. I have
been in essentially this routine with 6 workouts a week for 3 years
now and I love it. I also have an 11 y/o daughter and am single so I
absolutely have to take care of myself. It probably helps to be single
though, cause another person might find my routine and food choices
boring, selfish, or some other negative adjective. dkw
