I watched a show on TV last night that debunks conspiracy theories.
They looked at the Oklahoma City bombing and the similar conspiracy
kooks that don't believe a truck bomb alone could have brought down
the federal building. These whack jobs claim there had to be
additional explosives placed in the building itself. Chief among
them is a retired Air Force General, who allegedly was an explosives
expert. This is the type of almost believable alleged expert that
these kooks like to cite. His main point that supported a
conspiracy was that by his calculations, the truck, loaded with
explosives, placed 15 ft from major structural pillars, could not have
caused the collapse because it would have only generated 500lbs of
force at the pillars. The experts on the official investigation
calcuated it as 5500lbs. of force.

So, to settle it, the show got an indentical truck, loaded it with the
exact material McVeigh used, built identical concrete pillars in the
desert and set it off. The result: Over 5600lbs of force recorded
at the pillars, almost spot on to the official experts calculation.
So, now does the General, who obviously knows very little about even
explosives, let alone building collapse, and has lost all credibility
say, ooops, I was wrong? No, he now says the force doesn't matter,
and retreats back to more stupid arguments, like the explosion wasn't
perfectly symettrical, etc.

THe Middle East has suffered from what Michael Moore refered to as
the policies of "Stupid White Men," mostly self-righteous Christians
who felt they "knew the way" and then found their oil and figured out
another way when oil became the strategic world resource.

The Kurds, Afghans, Pakistani's et al all feel they should govern
their respective destiny and might have done so were it not for Shell
(the Dutch) and BO (the British) and AMOCO (thass us) whose wealthy
owners cared little for self-determination should it interfere with
profit and power.

It was Europeans and Americans who forced a state of Israel on the
region - akin to turning a temple into a pig farm from an Arabic
prospective.

Imagine the turmoil in this country should the United Nations decide
that he Indians and Blacks should have their land and repatriations
and decided to arm them and support their new "states" within our
borders? Does the image of the Wolverines (RED DAWN) come to mind aa
angry Americans attempted to thwart such activities as the reclamation
of Indian lands.

We are involved in the Iraq war instead of seeking out OBL, ostensibly
to destroy Saddam's WMD while supplying Israel with American and
French WMD and billions in aid to boot.

A good friend of mine and former band mate, had a lot of trouble with
arthritic pain in his wrist.
NOBODY on this planet is a bigger sceptic of these weird-kinda things
like Q-bracelets, homopathic medicine, etc than that bro'. You got to
know this guy like I do, to fully understand the total, perpelexed
reaction he had when, after a few days, his pain went away and he was
again able to play the acrobatic licks on his gittar without wincing
in agony.
He told me: "look, Robbie, I didn't WANT this ****ing thing to work,
but it does."
Had ANYBODY else told me this, I would have laughed it off like a
prank.
My circle of friends fell right off the back of Ken Kesey's bus. They
all love a good joke.
I would NOT have believed this, if it wasn't for the player involved.
I'm dead-serious.
Could be purely psychological, who knows?

A slightly less sententious tone would work better, I think. But it's
rather well designed. After about 5 mins, having (purposely, I think)
turned away the more intelligent viewers, it starts with the conspiracy
theory.

As time goes on, it deliberately appeals to slightly stupider and
stupider, and hooked-er and hooked-er people. That was actually the
most interesting thing about it, I thought. Actually I'm going to
watch this thing through.

"Sound reaches us after vision" [so the sound of an explosion should
come after the collapse of a building. Ignoring that the collapse need
not coincide with its cause.]

"Steel melts at X degrees, i.e. only in a blast furnace or when
thermite is applied to it" [the steel presumably couldn't have lost its
strength without melting]. She carries on talking about steel stoves
that run red hot (wow, 500 degC).

"We are talking explosions rather than implosions, a first in
demolition history" [hardly good evidence for demolition, which is the
allegation!]

"Watch both buildings collapse straight down" [see previous note - heh,
why can't we have it both ways!]

"We are watching a building collapse faster than gravity itself" [in
fact they collapsed at approximately g.dot].

[16 mins on] Something about volcanoes now. After a long digression
about volcanoes a guy with a freaky tone talks about pyroclastic flows
and [ah!] controlled demolitions. I wondered when they'd get back to
the theme...

Fires underground. [So where do you expect the energy to go after the
collapse?]

open air fires cannot melt steel... white smoke appeared at the base of
the building" [a lot of bull**** chemistry here, the white smoke at
the base of the building comes in again, thought it looks like some
minor effect of overpressure, certainly not a thermite device close to

"Demolition stages had to take place in a hurry in the panicked
aftermath of the plane crashes" [yeah, I'd nearly forgotten about the
plane crashes myself by now].

Getting to 54 mins, we're taking words out of context... And now Mr.
Silverstein is profiteering from his investment in the buildings and
his insurance policies. [Doesn't sound a very Anglo-Saxon type, does
he?]

LOL, "lost forever were thousands of documents on corporate fraud,
including Enron". [What a waste going on to convict Kenneth Lay,
then...]

1:03 hours in... George Bush's cousin laid the explosives...

"Patients have black paste coming out of their pores. They have
reported bowel movements that are blue or green, even thought they have
not been near a fire scene in months..." [nearly getting on topic in
rasfc now...]

It's all about asbestos and stuff now. But now and again they refer to
the story, and are no longer 'questioning', they refer to the
'conspiracy'. Kind of like a stage magician, you watch his hands and
you don't notice what's being slipped in...

1:17 - some of the 'scientific' images are looking a bit home-made
now...

$200m worth of gold belonging to one company was found after. Was
there more? Stuff was being moved around. People heard funny noises!
Gold stored in the buildings was being whisked away!

It finishes with assertions of a conspiracy, immediately followed with
a claim that its purpose is to raise questions, followed with some
legalistic stuff, followed by some quite New Agey stuff (Rabbit Holes,
Alice, this is the First Awakening. I'm not making this up, honest.)
