Default Day 5 of 100 Days

Day 5 of 100 Days --

Got on the scales right now – no change in weight.

Had about 1200 calories yesterday and also went for a bike ride up my
little hill. I've been drinking a lot of carbonated water in the last
three days and perhaps that has led to water retention. Oh, well – in
the fullness of time, the weight will come off.

I was talking to a young female rower who completed the Corvallis to
Portland Regatta this last summer – it's about 115 miles in length,
and she rowed it with another rower. It was her third time – his
first.

After they passed through the locks at Oregon City (and had rowed
about 105 miles or so), he asked her, "How are you feeling?" and she
said, "Great!"

"But how does your butt feel – how do your hands feel?" he asked.

She responded, "Don't ask me that! I feel great!"

I guess the point is simple enough. A little discomfort shouldn't stop
one from reaching one's goals. Of course the pain in completing the
CPR regatta – or finishing a marathon or completing the Pacific Crest
Trail hike – is more than most of us are willing to put up with. But a
little discomfort in missing calories or snacks or beer or… won't hurt
us at all. On the other hand, too many calories will clearly kill too
many of us early, and will make many of us seek out serious surgery,
will make us despondent, etc. (This is clearly a food-toxic
environment with many people pushing us to buy food, with people
advocating to "make sure" we're not "starving," etc.)

So here's to a little discomfort initially! But it will fade away
quickly as the days turn into weeks and months.

I hope everyone is successful in whatever weight loss methods they are
using!

I did 600 cals yesterday. The results were surprising and a lot better than
I deserve. That brick wall has gotta be coming up fast for me. Caleb, here
we have the Boston Marathon, and it would be nice to say I've run it, but
it's really not healthy. I used to run 10Ks, and next spring I'll maybe do a
few of those for fun.


ItΉs nice to hit my short term goal of 210. Jeans that were painful to wear
at 223 are comfortable now, and my belt is in a notch. Caleb, like your
friend, ³I feel great.²
