Default Bad night last night

Well, I don't think I have to worry too much about the birthday cake I ate
yesterday. It all came back up about later, thanks to the stomach flu.

But this was after I had taken a nice hot bath to get rid of the flu
'aches.' After getting up to dry myself off, I passed out and ended up on
the bathroom floor with DH rushing into the room and blood pouring from my
nose from where I'd popped it. Then, I tried to get back up gradually from
my knees and passed out again, this time bumping the back of my head on the
wall behind me (don't ask me how I bumped the BACK of my head from being on
my knees.) It was a scary time for all of us. I was so freaked out because
I've never had that happen to me before!

DH wanted to call an ambulance since he was sure I'd broken my nose, but I
assured him that I didn't think it was broken (I could press, rub, etc., on
it and it didn't hurt), and I told him that the combination of barely eating
anything all day, the extra sugar in the birthday cake, a pain pill I'd
taken for the flu 'aches,' and the hot bath were what caused me to pass out.

I'm okay this morning. My neck muscles hurt and my nose is swollen, but
I'll live.

Thanks, Carmen! I'm really feeling much better today, and I plan to get in
to the doctor's office Monday to make sure that everything's all right.

Holy crap Linda! Stay in bed today and ride out the illness in
relative safety. Perhaps DH can put the mattress on the floor in case
you roll off? ;-)

Thanks, Ig! It was definitely scary. The only thing I can figure is that
it was at least partly due to the stomach flu.

A scary turn of events. i am glad you are fine... I also had a stomach
bug a week ago. Puked and had diarrhea for a few hours and could not
hold water well. I ALMOST passed out. I was standing next to the
toilet, and then felt dizzy, decided to sit on the floor, noticed that
my pulse was something like 30 -- I could not even count it properly
-- and called my wife. Asked for some sugar water, that helped in a
couple of minutes. I was pretty close to passing out.

Thanks, S t a c i! Thankfully, we're on fall break this weekend, so won't
be going back to work until Tuesday. My nose should be back to normal by
then.

Yikes! Bad combo! Glad you're feeling better...your post reminded me of
when I went off plan when I was about a month into LC by eating two peanut
butter cookies. I nearly passed out (I made it to the couch and slept it
off.) Now, that was just a couple of cookies...not the flu, not pain

pills,
not lack of food. Makes me agree with you that the sugar in your birthday
cake was a contributing factor! I think we can get really sensitive to
sugar when we're not eating it regularly.

Now, get yourself an ice pack for that nose.

This happens to me from time to time. Usually for me, there are a few
contributing factors, but the common theme in every episode is an
extreme lack of sleep, followed by getting out of bed too quickly.
I've passed out while standing in front of a toilet taking a leak
before. Once while in the shower. I woke up looking at the ceiling
with my feet in the shower. Most recently, when our dog had puppies,
my wife yelled at me (at about 5am) to hop out of bed and help her
with this one. I got out of bed and lasted about 20 seconds. These
days, I can feel it coming and can lie down in a hurry so I don't hit
my head which is the real danger. I also have enough time to warn
people. I'm usually out for 10-20 seconds. Then when I regain
consiousness, I have to stay lying down for five minutes or so. If I
even try to sit up, out go the lights again. I haven't had an episode
in over a year now, which makes me think that the 70lbs I lost, and
the subsequent lower blood pressure, with low carb may have fixed this
problem as well as a few others I'd had.
