Such hard and fast rules you want to enforce.

Threads in newsgroups are conversations between individuals in a free
floating medium not Q&A sessions in some structured academic setting.
Ideas are fluid, dynamic, ever moving and morphing into new and
wonderful things. To so rigidly restrict your views that you worry over
the order of quotes and replies in a single post strikes me as unnatural
and unhealthy. I suppose all hand held calculators should use RPN
notation instead of algebraic because that's the way it was in the
beginning. Or perhaps we could all go back to using paper teletype to
read these posts.

Go play with some punch cards or something while the world moves on.

A meta-analysis found that homocysteine levels in the blood are not so
strongly correlated with heart attacks as once thought. A better
indicator may be ill will: being hostile predicted future heart disease
better than high cholesterol, cigarette smoking, or body-mass index.

Planning on hanging around here long?

So you want the entire thread sitting there in the last post so you only
have to open it to see what everyone has said in the whole damn thread?
Now who's being lazy?

Ummmm ... no.

And you want proper snipping too?

Yes.

Not gonna happen. Not at the same time.

You're right.

None of this has anything to do with what I wrote, really, but you're
right.

I guess some people just have memories that can't keep info longer than
12 hours and need special formatting and other such "crutches" readily
at hand to "remind" them what happened yesterday. shrug

No -- it's just appropriate and considerate to provide context for
one's remarks. Like I did here -- I removed my comments, that you
were responding to, and then I've responded to _you_.

Beneath your remarks.

To provide context.

Why should I be forced to do anything extra to compensate for other
peoples sub-normal memory ability?

Because it's considerate. It shows sensitivity and good judgement and
intelligence and an understanding of appropriate behavior.

But if those things don't matter, then you can always top-post and/or
snip the entire post that you're responding to, and just post
out-of-context remarks. I mean, it's a choice.

Start quoted text from Bobo Bonobo?'s post:

People should not quote parts that are not relevant to the reply.

You should not top post.

An answer should always come after a question.

Of course I can't enforce anything, but I do approve of farting next
to people who are wearing strong cologne.

It's a matter of etiquette. There is no practical reason for not
eating mashed potatoes with your fingers. It's just rude and sloppy,
like writing unorganized paragraphs. Posting replies directly below
the text one is responding to provides for optimal clarity.
