I used to think that I was big boned just because I was fat. Now I am
realizing that in fact I may be small boned and really should be at
lower weight than 176. (I am 5'11"). This is based on an observation
that my wrists have small circumference. Does anyone know of simple
tests of how big boned the person really is. Thanks.

Ask your doctor.

Direct measurements of the bones. Measuring the width of your elbow
joint is one useful measurement, because you can measure the size of the
bones pretty accurately with calipers at that point without any
intervening soft tissue to mess things up.

I am very big-boned; it runs in my family, and I know it is the case
from measurements and from various experiences that have demonstrated to
me that I must have bones like concrete. However, I still got fat, and
I still need to lose weight even today. The only difference that big
bones make, weight wise, is that you can carry more fat without it
showing as much. Throughout my life, people have always been surprised
to learn how much I really weigh, as I don't look that heavy. Having a
heavy physique does raise your "ideal" weight a bit, but not very much.
In my case, my ideal weight is about 10-15 pounds above what the charts
would say for my height. Sometimes there is more muscle along with the
heavier bones, which can raise the acceptable weight, too, but here
again, one should not get carried away, nor should one attempt to deny
obesity with this type of reasoning.

Oooooh, you are soooooo close to getting it!

Big bones is one way of saying you have greater density than normal. Keep
with me here... people who are denser should logically weigh more... okay,
stick with it, we're nearly there...

GO BY YOUR BODY FAT PERCENTAGE INSTEAD OF YOUR WEIGHT!!!!!
