My New Diet Plan
I've spent thousands of $$$ on assorted weight loss plans, pills, you name it.
But...I finally found a plan that is actually working for me. It might just work for you, too. It's revolutionary, I know, but it is working amazingly well. You eat smaller portions of whatever you like. Have fruits and veggies every day. Drink some water. Exercise at least 3 or 4 times a week. That's it. And you don't have to pay anyone except the grocery store. |

For very many people something is causing them to be fat. Reactions, addictions, whatever. Fail to discover and remove the cause and you fail you be able to keep off any loss. For these folks all attempts to simply reduce the portions of the problem foods they already ate is the foolish dream of someone who has never thought through any of the issues. But if it has worked for you great. Just don't be so simple mindedly foolish as to think there's even one single poster on ASD who hasn't tried that already numerous times and failed. And note that while the driver might be a physical addiction (I am wheat intolerant and wheat triggers me the way alcohol triggers an alcoholic) or an insulin reaction (controlling blood sugar swings is how low carb works) the driver doesn't have to be physical. It can be mental. Bad habits, obssessive disorders, you name it. And so many wise and experienced regulars urge people to "Fix your head". People walk on two legs and loss is rather like that as well. On one step fixed the physical by isolating one food at a time and removing the problem ones. On the next step fix your head by inspecting your thoughts and emotions and using habitual thought this year to determine what your emotions will be next years. And continue stepping on both paths. |

Good post Doug. My wheat allergy manifests itself my making me dizzy, stuffy noise instantly, tickles in my ears and later stomach pains. This falls on deaf ears for the agricultural lobby that built the food pyramid for the government. LOL! -- Diva ***** The Best Man For The Job Is A Woman |

Do you honestly believe there's even one fat person on ASD who hasn't done that many times across the years and failed each and every time? If you do you're an idiot. You can assert "Of course it will work!" all you like but the hard data is completely and utterly against you. It works for some and good for them but it fails miserably for many maybe even for most. Data works, wishfull thinking by idiots does not. |

... What matters is whether you (the person in question) can stick to a plan. Yet in other words, it is impoprtant to find a plan that you can stick to. So if a plan is set up so it is absolutely guaranteed that I personally will fail on it, then the plan failed. But if a plan is set up so that I can stick with it but I don't, then I would be the one who failed. Cases where it's forced like a POW concentration camp aren't relevant to the topic. Taking my own case - I'm wheat intolerant and have an addictive reaction to wheat. So any plan that pushes me to eat wheat is absolutely guaranteed to fail for me. In fact any plan that doesn't include an elimination system would have failed for me before I learned that. I've corresponded with others who get insulin swings if they eat even a bite of food over some glycemic load, with folks who binge if they don't stay below a certain fat percentage, and so on for quite a long list of individual traits. The fact is various people have various issues that guarantee one plan or another will certainly fail for them. It's why there are a lot of plans out there. It's also why any claim that one plan is right for everyone is a false claim. No plan works for everyone. No matter how simple, no matter how complex. No matter how nice it sounds, no matter how bizzare it sounds. No matter that folks who've never encountered some issue ignore it. So back to my own case. Put me on a plan that includes eating wheat and my amount of commitment to following that plan is utterly irrelevant. No matter how much effort I put in my body will respond by increasing the cravings. Blaming me for failing on such a plan is like blaming a wino subject to binge drinking for failing on a plan that includes a glass of wine with lunch. Many folks need to identify their weakness and work to avoid whatever it is. Some folks on ASD can lose simply by eating less. Good for them and godspeed. But anyone who imagines it's true of everyone is a fool. And my discussion above don't even get into the psychological aspects. Simply doing it and working at it is a great start for psychological aspects but it's not sufficient for everyone either. |

I couldn't agree more with this statement! Yes, I believe that some plans are not for all people and there are some people who have been unsuccessful at attempts to lose because of their own motivation, but the wrong plan can really mess with your head. If you have a medical problem you aren't aware of, that can mess with your head. Continual lack of success can mess with your head. Your parents/family/spouse can mess with your head. "Diet plans" when followed correctly work for most people, not all. There is no Holy Grail or One Size Fits All program for everyone. Yes, eating less is what it boils down to, but don't confuse SIMPLE with EASY. -- the volleyballchick |

Your plan is as good as telling alcoholics to limit themselves to 10 drinks per week. It will work if they follow it; but it is extrodinarily unlikely that many problem drinkers will. A good weight loss plan has to address the genetic, metabolic, and/or phychosocial reasons individuals prone to obesity overeat. Matthew |
