Hello all!

I just thought I'd pop out and introduce myself. A friend of mine (and
a regular on here) told me to check out the group, and it's been
fantastic. I'm in Week 3 of WW Mach 2. Here's a bit of b/g of me.

When I was in my teens, I was a big girl. I didn't have the first clue
about dieting, so I went anorexic. I dropped from 140 to 115 in about a
month. I was threatened with hospitalization, so I tried to stop. The
problem was, it had taken a stronger hold than I thought. It took
several years to completely beat it. But I went the other way. At 24 I
was 215lbs. I went on the Deal-A-Meal plan and had a free gym
membership and dropped to 140, but with a low BMI. Then my weight
slowly started to creep up. I stablized for a year or so at 150. This
was with no real exercise nor meal planning.

Then I moved to Boston.

My first year here I ballooned up to 175. That's when I decided to join
Weight Watchers. Insurance covered part of the cost, so I figured why
not. I dropped to about 166 when life took over and I got off the
program.

Let's jump to the present. Over the last year my weight has gone up to
200lbs. This was also the year of HUGE life change (I won't bore you
with the details) I've only lost about 3.5lbs, but I'm hopeful that
I'll get to my goal weight of 140 again.

Now I'll go back into lurking again.

Hey hey hey,

I do believe that would be me you're referring to.... *grin*
I was wondering when (if?) you'd pop up here

People keep doing that......very strange

Well, you've gotten off to a pretty good start, and you know it can be done,
so me be hopeful for you too. Might as well add one more change to all the
others that have been going on this year, no? Besides, you're worth
it....... (sorry, had to throw a cheesy quote in somewhere, and I couldn't
remember the Yoda one about there being no trying only doing....Ray?)

Now I'll go back into lurking again.

Oh no you don't. I'll not be having it, y'hear?

I guess I'll delurk also then

Ah hah, so you ARE both there then........

I'm Diosa's other (Better?) half ... I moved as far away from Krys as
possible about a year ago (Still love ya hon ), from sleepy Oxford
(Where Krys had been known to visit) to Boston ... I weighed about
210lbs when I did that. Since then, American life has hit the waist
line, I've adapted to the much bigger US food portions and jumped to
250lbs in a year.

Nice beer in Oxford. Not as bad for you as US food portions though, it
would appear.......

Being a heavy built 6 foot tall guy, I've no idea where I want to look
for a goal weight, this is my first time doing anything like this, and
unless Diosa and Krys were there to back me up, I'd not be able to stick
to it! I've no will power when a bacon butty calls :/

You're suggesting that you do have will power when it comes to anything
else? Bacon butties are your only weakness?
Hmmmmm. *grin* Still, we'll back you up - it's 2 against one, so you don't
stand a chance!

So, thats me. I guess I'm looking to drop to ... well, anything lower!
Week 3 and 5lbs lost.

Pretty good start - hurrah! As for goal weights - according the WW UK site,
the recommended range for someone your height - 6 foot - is 10 st 7 to 13 st
2 - that's 147 to 184. That's for girls and guys, so I guess you'd be
wanting to aim somewhere nearer the top of that range.

Good luck!
Be seeing you around here...... oh, and it tends to be a tad more easy going
here than some other NGs.......

Hi to Diosa and the (other!) hald Smeg - two for the price of one It's
good to hear from both of you. Don't go back to lurking, it's so much fun
out here in the open!! Here's the welcome notice to get you both started.

Welcome to this great newsgroup where you'll receive lots of support,
advice, and encouragement. Once a week on Sundays, I post a list of links
that newcomers to asdww might find useful. You may want to look for that
later in the week, or do a backwards search for last Sunday's post.

In the meantime, here's our FAQ:
http://www.didian.com/asdww/
our welcome notice:
http://www.geocities.com/welcomenotice/index.html

Frequently seen acronyms on this NG:
NSV = Non-Scale Victory
WOE = Way of Eating
WOL = Way of Life (Living)
OP = on Points or On Program
DH = Dear or Darling Husband
DS/DD/DGD/etc = Dear or Darling Son, Daughter, Granddaughter, etc
WI = Weigh-in

WNM - Weight No More Weight Loss Challenge:

Other acronyms:
http://www.wwlissa.com/dwlz100+/100+acronyms.htm

Here's a short synopsis of the USA program by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current weight, as you
lose
weight those points allowed will decrease (logic is that your body will need
less
to operate). At 183 pounds and based on the new US flexpoints system, you
will
have a set point target of 24. In addition to this you are allowed 35
flexpoints
to be used throughout the week ... as well as any activity points you earn
on a
particular day. When your weight drops to 175, your target drops to 22
points ...
weight reaches 150, target once again drop to 20 points. 3 servings of
dairy of
recommended per day, 5 servings of fruit and veggies, minimum of 6 glasses
of
water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer desktop
calculator ...
http://www.zythra.com/downloads/points.exe

The basic plan is easy. Eat at least your minimum daily number of points.
Points
do not carry over from day to day. You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to
be
used at your discretion ... can divide them up and use daily (would be an
additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a special
occassion
during the week. Activity points are earned based when exercising, but can
ONLY
be used on the day they are earned.

If you can afford $15/month, the online ww program might be a great thing
for you
to look into. There is lots of information available, as well as the food
point
database and journaling system.

Joyce
WW starting weight: 228.8 - 2/5/02
current weight: 133.3
Lifetime: 4/4/03

Please note that if you live in onther countries (UK, Australia, NZ,
Europe), the Points plans are different. The UK and Australia/NZ calculate
points based on saturated fat and total kilojoules. Most of Europe
calculates based on total fat and total kilojoules. The desktop calculator
above can handle all of these programs.

Disclaimer: As an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, asdww is unusual in that
most of the people who participate are respectful, considerate folks who
freely share their experience with and knowledge of WW, weight loss, and
maintenance. Yet occasionally, spammers, trolls, and flamers show up to post
advertising, false information, insults, and the like. Nearly all of the
time, people like this are just trying to yank someone's chain. Most of the
regulars on this newsgroup offer their experience as a suggestion to try if
you're stuck, but are quick to advise that each person has to find what
works for him/herself. If someone posts something that doesn't sound right
to you, ask the newsgroup, ask your WW leader, or ask your health
professional.

Much success on your weight loss journey! WW works!
