Only one of the types of ketones generated when the body converts fatty acids for fuel. As well as acetyl-CoA. Some things found in the body might be toxic, if taken by mouth. Some things are toxic if they aren't in a natural mixture of ingredients. The acetone produced inside the body is mixed with other ketones. Some things are toxic if they don't have a control mechanism that limits their dosage. The ketone release during low carb dieting has functional controls that limit the amount of ketones present in the blood to well under the amounts that occur in ketoacidosis. After about two weeks, the metabolism switches to mostly acetyl-CoA with much less ketones. Even during those two weeks the levels of ketones are limited because the cells consume them and the fat released by the liver takes metabolic rate into account. Showing his usual ignorance, Chung didn't take any of this into account. |

Hi Mairy,
ABC is guilty of a great deal, "junk science" included. However I don't think he has a commercial agenda *here*. But you needn't apologise - his posts invite misunderstanding! Take care, Phil. -- "Time wounds all heels." Black Sabbath, Clark Terry and Duke Ellington today. Music is the food of my *life*. http://uk.geocities.com/philadkinsp/diabetes.html http://uk.geocities.com/philadkinsp/index.html |
