How I Lost Weight
Every once in a while I get sloppy on my eating habits and gain 10 pounds
and the older I get the harder it seems to get rid of. I get disgusted with the look of my stomach and it begins to feel uncomfortable. I start by walking everyday ( 3 to 4 miles), stop eating sweets, stop eating bread, stop eating junk at parties, stop picking up stuff between meals to snack on ie. crackers, chips etc. Instead , start eating fruit for snacks with a little cheese. Stay off the scales for least two weeks.( I think a lot of people get disgusted it they diet for a few days and don't see any weight change.) Start noticing how my belt is going in a notch every once in a while. This is a diet that I can stay on for months without a problem. Personally I can't just eat one of something that I shouldn't be eating. I have to obstain and then after a while I don't really want it anymore. Nothing taste as good to compare with the way you feel when you are in shape. Hope this will help people who have never had success with dieting. I am no professional but this works for me. |

This seems reasonable. But is walking 3 or 4 miles (about 9000 steps) the extent of your exercise? And you only do it when you've gained back a few pounds? No wonder you think stamina is something you lose as you age. I'd recommend half an hour daily of exercise strenuous enough to break a sweat. It might be playing a game of badminton or running 3 miles or hiking with your kids or riding a bicycle, but it's necessary for more than just weight management. Dally |

How I Lost Weight
I exercise for health not for a tee shirt and maybe a trophy ,if the good
runners don't show up. I think the over indulgence in exercise such as triathlons is a show-off thing to get people to see you at the finish line and have something to talk about with your normal friends. When the knees go out or your poor husband has a heart attack the tee shirts wont be much reward. "Dally" wrote in message ... W. Wells wrote: This seems reasonable. So your position is that 1/2 an hour each day of strenuous exercise that causes you to sweat makes me a.) a boring friend, b.) a show-off, c.) endangers my husband's (and presumably my) heart and d.) triathlons, what with the swimming and cycling thrown in, are worse than just running every day? I'm getting a not-very-attractive urge to poke you a bit with a stick. Do you REALIZE you're fooling yourself? Dally |

You know, at the heart of it I don't disagree with you. I don't care if you exercise for health or for competition or because it's how you get to work. It really doesn't matter to me. I didn't have a problem with any of your post, either, except you set yourself a pretty low bar with walking 3 or 4 miles. But what constitutes "strenuous" differs for everybody. Perhaps you're 80 years old with arthritis and heart disease and three miles IS strenuous and sweat-provoking for you. My main problem is that you said Betsy was lacking in stamina because she's 30 years old, and you truly seem to believe than an hour or so of sweaty effort each day is bad for you in some way. You are wrong. What I'm wondering is why are you so wedded to this incorrect belief? Dally |

I don't remember telling the 30 year old that she did not have any stamina.
I told her that she might be dreaming since she said how she would be in this great shape by the end of the year. "Dally" wrote in message ... Dally wrote: W. I do REALIZE that one of the drawbacks of too much exercise is violent
behavior. One tends to have emotions of grandeur of their physical prowess. You seem to be in that mode already. Please be careful. I'm getting a not-very-attractive urge to poke you a bit with a stick. Do you REALIZE you're fooling yourself? Dally |

You probably like me because I am screwed up.
However, you do need to cut down on that over exertion. Think about your family and your poor OLD husband. If you aren't careful you could be working full time and not have the time to pound the dirt. "Dally" wrote in message ... W. I need to stop getting all sweaty and jocky so my husband won't get a heart attack? Or his weekly badminton and bicycling ought to stop as well? Dally |
